All we did was create problems in a place we dont belong, now we are pretty much stuck there for ever. This war will never end.

The one who wins is the one who has more staying power. In Vietnam the russians pumped in men, money and guns until the US chickened out. The islamists hope for the same in Iraq. The advantage in Iraq is that the new government makes lots of progress, so even if the islamists keep fighting for some years to come, they will be facing a well trained iraqi army. Even at the peak of their power, Islamists are only a couple percent of the population. So if they are held back long enough- they will lose. If you need examples, look at Algeria or Turkey

We have also heard that this is going to be a long, drawn out war. Do you conveniently forget that so your contention will be more plausable? Also, the anti-war wimps were so influential in the Vietnam war that they eventually got their way. With GW as president, there's not much hope of that in the present situation, but there is a good chance if one of the anti-war wimps is elected as president this time, or even one of the pro-war hawks that does not have the perseverence as GW does. Remember what happened in Vietnam after we so shamelessly left? Thousands upon thousands were murdered? I wouldn't think a bleeding heart would enjoy that happening when they are so upset at the cvilian casualities now.

The problems that we created in the Middle East will not go away so easily. We supply money to various dictators and watch them ruin their own nations, built up sufficient hatred towards ourselves, use force on the nation and expect all will live happy everafter, we accomplished nothing in Korea, nor in Vietnam or the little banana republics and watch old allies turn their backs on us...Venezuela, Philippines, Indonesia, etc. No there is no corner here, but another quagmire of stupidity.

There is a corner that's about to be turned. The real question is, what in hell is around that corner, anyway? I hope it's not someone with a gun, cause that would suck. (Just kidding, I couldn't resist.

With all the corners we've turned, we're back at square one. Get what I mean? We didn't solve anything, after all.

turn a corner and trip over the body of one of over a hundred dead torture victims, likely released from a secret CIA jail, within one week of Bush announcing that they were being cleaned out, and that torture was good
