Looking through these magazines, every dress is over $1,000. I want a simple, elegant gown, nothing too fancy--but the ones I pick out seem to cost a butt load. Any tips on finding a great dress at a good price? Or should you just buy whichever one you like no matter the cost?

Try a discount store. I went to a store that had bought out a bridal shop and got an Alfred Angelo dress for $250 it was originally about $900 also you can try eBay or the paper Or if your not to materialistic try a consignment store remember a second hand dress was only worn once. You may be able to find something at a good will pay 50 bucks for it and have it altered around for another 50-100 bucks and there you go you have the perfect dress for less then say $200. Hope all this helps. PS I wouldn't suggest Davids bridal ALL (if you have one near you) there dresses are try on dresses and some are dirty and they won't give you a discount. If they don't have your size they are calling another store to get it not having it made despite what they may tell you.

I hear ya! I have the same problem. However, there are so many beautiful gowns that are not expensive. The magazines do a great job of sucking us in and falling in love with gowns that are just so expensive. Personally, I have no intensions of spending $1000 on a dress for ONE DAY.

So here's what I have done. I have gone to www.bridesave.com to check out dresses. They give you an idea on cost and also have a HUGE selection of gowns. Also, many gowns by Alfred Angelo (www.alfredangelo) are moderately priced (most of the ones I love are well under $1000.00. You may also want to visit David's Bridal. They have many gowns for as low as a couple hundred dollars. They are beautiful but you really can't appreciate them until you see them for yourself.

Good luck!!!

Most of those dresses you love can be made in a little bit less expensive fabric therefore moving the cost into your price range. Talk with the store, this isn't something that is highly advertised as they are there to sell the wedding dress as it.

I've never heard anyone at a wedding say, " Gee, wasn't that a beautiful wedding but did you feel the fabric that gown was made from?!" You can usually substitute a different fabric, or just a less expensive grade of the same fabric.

Welcome to a million dollar industry! My daughter fell in love with a dress she found on the internet..It was $1,200. I paid it, because I only have one baby girl, and I wanted her to have everything possible. We ordered it through a privately owned shop, after ordering it I was playing on Ebay. Quess what I found? The same dress for $500 less. Now, we do a lot of buying off Ebay, but I never have ordered anything like a wedding dress, so I would research it before ordering. But if you find a designer you like or a particular dress call around.

Another hint I would give you is this-please go and try on some dresses. You maybe surprised that you fall in love with one that you wouldn't have dreamed of wearing. My daughter ended up with the one she found online, but we had such a great time trying them on, It was fun for her to be treated like a the princess she is, and it was great to see her have such a good time.

Shop around and you might just find the "one" cheaper somewhere else. It's going to take a little time to do this, but look I could have save $500 bucks! Think of what I could have done with at extra money, that's a chunk of change. I could have spent at money on something very special for her, or spent it on my sore feet after the wedding, my shoes rubbed!

Honey, get to looking and shopping both online and in the shops, you will find the perfect dress in the price range you can afford or want to spend......have the happiest of weddings

God bless us all...........

Sounds like you just have good taste :-)

I would stick to my budget, if you spend too much on the dress, you will have less to spend on other things. You don't want to sacrifice your reception for a gown. You can get the gown of your dreams (or close to it) without spending more than you are willing.

For less expensive gowns, try eBay, consignement stores, the classifieds, or even renting the gown. Also look at David's Bridal and Bridesave.

My suggestion is to stay away from the magazines. Go into a bridal shop and go to their discount racks and just try them on. Most dresses on the rack are there because they are just a discontinued style. That's where I found my dress and it's absoutly beautiful. I paid $150 for mine and it fit perfectly...I just need a few alterations.
You don't have to spend alot of money to look elegant.

There are dresses around that are simple and georgeous and do not cost $1000. All you have to do is find them. Try looking online so you can get a better idea of what you. You can get a picture of the dress and have it made for you. This way you can make chages to it.

Because the big dream wedding is more important to the females than the male. She will pay any price for it and the companies mark these prices up for a profit.
A man has other dreams and it happens on the wedding night. That's why it only cost him $80.00 to rent his tux.

why are the dresses u like so expensive? i think that is because ur just so beautifull and u won't just put anything on u. am i right?

my only advice is that if u do not want all the problems others face, dress with taste, not too fancy. u don't want guys to take u as a player, right?
