I had my big molar root canaled about 22 hours ago. My jaw still aches and there is a constant throbbing in my tooth. Is this normal. If so how long should it persist. I am back to the dentist in about another 22 hours for treatment on another tooth, should the throbbing and jaw ache be over by then.

Teeth that have had a root canal done tend to be tender for 24-48 hours after the treatment.

Ibuprophen will be a huge help with the swelling that causes the throbbing which is always worse the next day due to the bodies reaction to the drilling the dentist does. I try to space them about 4 days to a week apart unless you can handle the pain x2. Good luck!

I've had 4 root canals on molars and the one that had throbbing pain i needed a re-treatment on ( i had to see a root canal specialist and do another root canal). i would definitely let the doctor know and if you think something is wrong it chances are something is. we know our bodies better than anyone else

I had a molar root canal done two years ago, and it still gives me major gip when I eat red meat. My dentists says there is nothing he can do about it which sucks. I have become very good at only chewing on my left side!

I would imagine that the area is still inflamed due to the treatment you've had. Have you taken some anti inflammatory pain killers? If, after taking the painkillers, it's not subsided when you go back for further treatment, mention it to your dentist just in case the area has become infected. Good luck.

The pain should subside soon. Have you been given any painkillers by your dentist or GP? Consult your dentist if you're at all worried.

Sorry, but root work can take months or even longer to settle down...it's just how it is, and it's not the same for everyone.

sorry, but yes, it can last quite a few days. paracetamol and hot lemon makes the pain deaden a little. My sympathies go out to you. I have had that.
