I got my daughter who turned 11 an ipod nano. I figure I will get him one of these next year. I don't want toget him anymore games now because I will probably be getting them a Wii for christmas. I was thinking about spending a 100 bucks on ebay and getting him a descent camera. His sister got one two years ago, and I think he would like one. But it is not exactly a 10 year old boy gift.

It sounds like he has enough indoor entertainment. How about getting him something that will take him outdoors into the fresh air.
A cricket set / basketball or something that the whole family can participate in. It might not sound like much but he will always remember the fun that came from playing and bonding with his family.

my son will turn 10 soon and we decided to give him a gift card from Wal-mart (they have everything) We are going to make it a family day.....go shopping, dinner(his choice of restaurant) and ice cream. If you really want to get him a camera, buy him a disposable first, so you can see if it's something he would be interested in. He may take a few pics and decide that he doesn't enjoy it, so save the digital camera until you know this will be some thing he'll like. For the record, He dont need an ipod nano, Sandisk make excellent mp3 players for a third of the cost

,He's ten? Buy him a car. My God when did birthdays get so materialistic? I got to have all my friends over to eat hot dogs and cake, We played kick the can,and got to stay out till the streetlights came on, Some times Dad would take 15 kids to the lake to go swimming! Sometimes the simplest things make good memories. Don't overindulge with your son, make an effort and plan something instead of just handing him a gift.

Maybe amicroscope. When my little brother was ten he got one and loved it. You can get little kits from good toy shops. Something that will encourage his academic side. If he's not into that sort of thing then maybe like a bug catching kit. Something that will encourage him to play outside instead of being planted in front of a tv or gameboy all day. A bike? Good luck. When i was ten i was a terror to buy for!

A digital camera is a great idea! Also, a digital video camera if you can find one that cheap. If he likes board games, Heroscape is very popular. My 11 year old kid thinks it's awesome that you are getting him a Wii for Christmas.

I got a trumpet for my 10th birthday. Also, if possible, take him to do something. Just the two of you, something like fishing, bowling, ball games, you know, guy things. Let him know that he's geting to become a man. Money can not buy the memories your son has of you, so be creative!!!

How about a musical instrument and instructional video? A guitar/drums/anything really. That's what I've done for my kids and they loved it. Plus I prefer them to be spending their time on something other than video games all the time, which isn't easy, and the instruments help a lot.

Forgive me for making this complex, but what does your son LIKE?

Surely there is a sport, or music, or SOMETHING that he likes and would like to do more of, learn more about. I'm female, but i would be bummed out if i was always getting what my older sister ( or brother) got a year or 2 later. i don't mean hand-me-downs.
i would want something unique to me.
