I have a recipe for whoopie pie filling that calls for 2 whipped raw egg whites. I am making them for a group of people and don't want to be the cause of making people sick! Does anyone know if this is safe?? Ingredients are: egg whites, vanilla, flour, milk, 10 x sugar & vegetable shortening. Thanks!

I work in a grocery store, If you got the eggs from a large chain, like wal-mart or something, most likely the eggs were exposed to radiation to kill any bacteria,
if the eggs came from a farmers market, or something like that,
I'd not serve them raw.
pluse give them the water test:

a good egg lays down in water,
a fair egg stands up in water,
and if it floats, its no good.

( as it ages, and breaks down, more gas is in the egg)

No. Eggs can contain somannila (sp?) bacteria and make you very sick. Any raw egg products need to be cooked. Around here (in Indiana), eggs contain a warning label on the carton.

If you're worried, you can buy something like egg beaters, except the ones that are all egg whites. They are right next to the eggs in the grocery store. They are heat pasteurized so it kills any of the bacteria that could be growing.

It should be fine. Like papeche stated, if you got them from a grocery store, they should be pretty safe. Plus, I might be wrong, but I think egg whites are pretty safe, I think it's the yolks that have a risk of carrying salmonella.
