Absolutely yes. The politically incorrect problem, however, is that some immigrant groups are better than others. Latin-American and Carribean immigration have become a burden on the US to the point where Spanish is becoming a second language. But the US could use more Asians, particularly women and complete family groups, as they generally work hard, obtain lots of education, and integrate easily. I realize this seems nasty, but I'd say no more Latino immigrants, but throw open the gates to non-religous Asian groups.

I agree with the answers of yes and no.Legal immigration is a help to America but illegals are hell bent on destroying this country with their unrealistic demand for rights that they do not deserve as they are illegal.
Mexico is waging an aggressive diplomatic battle to protect its interests and the interests of its citizens who are working and residing illegally in the United States.
Because illegal immigrants, unlike those who are legally admitted for permanent residence, undergo no medical screening to assure that they are not bearing contagious diseases, the rapidly swelling population of illegal aliens in our country has also set off a resurgence of contagious diseases that had been totally or nearly eradicated by our public health system.
The Costs of Illegal Immigration to Californians: Executive Summary
Current Census Bureau data indicate that California's illegal immigrant population is costing the state's taxpayers more than $10 billion per year in 2004. This analysis looks specifically at the costs of education, medical care and incarceration, which are the major cost categories. Even without accounting for all of the other areas in which costs are being incurred by California's taxpayers, this study indicates that the burden is substantial — nearly $1,200 per native-headed household — and that the costs are rapidly increasing.
A few reasons why illegal immigration is not good for America.

Immigrants built the US, its railroads, roads, bridges etc. What if all the Irish and Italians were not allowed to stay in this country. Its just a new wave of immigrants looking for a better life. Immigration follows the jobs and the opportunties.

Both yes and no.
It is undeniable that IMMIGRATION is what has gotten the US to the status it is at today, and without immigration we wouldn't be the size or have what is out there. Immigration is what this country was based on, and it will continue to play an important part of what this country is to become.
The problem with immigration: ILLEGAL immigration. With people deciding that they don't like the immigration laws that we have, so they blatiently disregard them completely, they end up hurting the US and it's economy. How? Well, it is in so many ways. . .
1. Government programs. The illegal immigrants that COME here illegally tend to be poor, and have no job or skills when they "come" here. In that, they can't get a job they need to support the family they bring with them, so they end up working on less than minimum wage (if they can get a job at all - not everyone hires illegal immigrants). To "help" make ends meet, they end up getting government support (welfare, medicaid, and the such). These are programs they do not pay into by paying taxes, so in effect, more is being taken out than put into the funds. Simple math tells you that if you take out more than you put in, you will go broke. (National debt anyone??)
2. Job market. People would like to think that it doesn't happen, but how many times have legal Americans been passed over for a job because in hiring an illegal immigrant they don't have to pay them legal minimum wage, which is cheaper for the payroll. And some companies don't care if they are violating laws to make more money. This makes more people unemployed, thus having to dip into the government funded programs such as unemployment and welfare.
3. Crime. Some of the illegal immigrants that aren't able to get a job have to have some way to pay the bills. What is left if you can't get any government assistance and there is no job for you? Crime. Stealing food, cars, money, becoming involved in organized crime or gangs. . . All of this causes the crime rate to go up, and with more criminals around, one needs more police officers to deal with them. If the taxes aren't being paid, then where is the money going to come from for those officers to get hired? Answer: THEY WON'T.
These are just three of the many reasons. Controlling our borders is the way to help in the fight against illegal immigration. People should not be allowed to violate laws that they don't like or feel are against them. Our prisons are full of those people from our country. We don't need more of the people like that from the other countries. It would be wonderful to be able to help those that are disadvantaged in the world, but we have enough on our plates dealing with domestic issues. I think one needs to take care of things at home first, and then when those problems are taken care of (and ONLY then) we can then look at helping abroad.

Yes, immigration did helped US by doing the jobs no american would bother to do. And these jobs are still important to sustain the US economy like jobs in the agriculture industry. Other low-class jobs including being a washer, cleaner, taxi driver, etc that most americans wouldn't want to do are still critical to the US economy in one way despite the fact that there're also major drawbacks as well such as increased unemployment of locals.
And immigration usually cut production costs for the US companies because salaries and wages for immigrants are much lower and this result in cheaper and more affordable products.
Immigration also provide expertise from other countries as well. For example, an executive from Asia will bring in asian expertise and experiences to share with US counterpart and thus enhance their corporate competitiveness.

Legal immigration does. That is the cornerstone of the USA
Illegal alien invaders do not help anything, but help their selves to whatever they want. They just want to RAPE the USA for what they can
Without the illegal alien invaders wages go up, taxes go down, medical cost go down, education cost go down prison cost go down
Everything is better without illegal alien invaders

without immigration, the US would be a typical Banana republic, official language would be Spanish or Sioux or Navajo, resembling Afghanistan maybe.
