If your friend was a woman I would have linked her chest pain and lower back pain to a possible heart condition. Since he is a male he may have two seperate problems. He should see a Doctor to rule out any heart problems. Could be he has problem in his lungs. Some people get chest pains from blood clots that have formed in the lung. This can be extremely dangerous so he should have a complete exam done immediatly, Also does h e have any problem with acid reflux? As for the lower back pain he may have deteriating discs or an old back injury that causes the muscles to inflame every so often.

An asthma attack 10 years ago wouldn't cause chest pains today. He should visit a doctor.

My advice is to get your friend to go to the doctor or a chiropractor. Something is not right here and you need to get it looked at.
