It never used to be,but now in the last ten years also its a common thing to shave, I think its got alot to do with the media and the porn industry, wheather a person choses to shave, trim, style. of just leave it alone should be up to them.(although I shave my legs and under my arms I don't style, trim, wax,or shave my pubic hair),thats how I like it I think its a mark of being a woman.so why can't others just leave people alone a let them deside what they do with their body hair?

I've been wondering why this has become such an issue as well. And SO many people are getting their crotches lasered so that they can be hair free. That, seems like a dumb idea since what happens when it becomes vogue to have pubic hair?
Personally, i love women to have pubic hair. It's very feminine and sexy and makes them look like a woman and not a little girl.

OK here is another opinion for you. People shave their pubic hair for a lot of different reasons. Women for the bikini style and not having it look like they are hiding a small critter in their suit. As the suits got small so did the patches of pubic hair.
As one of the earlier responders stated it is taboo and that makes it sexually attractive to some men.
As for the men it is a new area for us. It is funny how it happened for me the first time. Before I got my vasectomy my doctor told me that the area had to be shaved and he told me since I was making the sacrifice that my wife should be the barber. She was very gentle and needless to say I got VERY excited and she just kept going shaving me all over down there! It was incredible and every once in a while I do it to surprise her.
HOWEVER! I must say the little shave bumps are not a nice site if I try and keep it off for more than a week. So I let it grow back.

In answer to one of your original questions, yeah i think the porn industry does have a lot to do with the modern craze for women to be waxed / shaved.
Guys that see women in porns and lads mags are told from an early age that this is what is attractive, and women are sent the message that that is what is sexy.
Still, why lose sleep over it? Personally I like my little go-faster-stripe and its the only boduy hair i have (none at all is a little too childlike for my taste). But I reckon that if you'r at the stage with a man where you're in bed & naked with his face down there, if you're worrying about your pubic hair, you're with the wrong person

Well, it has to do with pants getting smaller. Ever stood in front of a changing room mirror in your smalls, preparatory to slipping into some new jeans or a skirt, then gazed down to see 'mutton chop whiskers' sprouting out the sides of your bikini briefs? Not a nice look, is it? The 'lady beard' needs to be well trimmed and kept within the confines of your pants to avoid any changing room faux pas (if it is a communal changing room). Or consider standing before your man in some highly gorgeous French knicks. What could destroy the goddess image? Fluffy fronds emerging from the sides of the gusset again. Soooo unpretty!

If having pubic hair is a mark of being a woman, you shouldn't shave the other hair that appears at the same time at puberty - legs and armpits - in order to be consistant with your reasoning.

For some its hygiene, for others they like the look of clean shaven genitals. From personal experience, I would say it definitely improves sexual intercourse, removing all barriers so to speak. Both my partner and I shave and it just feels great!
Saying that I don't think people feel pressurised into styling their pubic hair, its definitely a personal choice and one that only you and few others in your life may ever get to appreciate.
In some cultures around the world body hair is considered sexually appealing...

Debbie,
No, I don't think it is an issue but to you it has become one. Either your mate would like you to trim the thing or there is a situation where people are aware of your Pubic views? A gym or something?
But, you are right, it never was a problem. However, it is nice when well cared for. I couldn't think of my mate in an "unkempt" condition. So, once you start, then you got to keep it up!

Having pubic hair is the mark of being a woman? Since when is having pubic hair exclusive to women? Anyway, do what you feel most comfortable with and forget about what others are doing.

I think its just a hygiene thing. If you take the time to shave or trim your pubes then you obviously take care about your appearance and hygiene. It doesn't mean that if you don't, you aren't hygienic, but its an outward indication that you do care. Same with facial hair, would you prefer to kiss a clean shaven man, a well trimmed and shaped goatee man or a big bushy unkempt facial growth! Same for us blokes who like a bit of muff diving. We'd rather go in for a nicely trimmed bush or a shaven haven that a big hairy mess. It just gives the impression that its cleaner!
