I think there are two possible answers to this one. Firstly, if you baby is bottle fed, then a week is too long to have gone without a bowel movement and you should consult your family doctor. I would probably have done that at about day three. Secondly, if your baby is breast-fed, you may already know that breast-fed babies can go several days without evacuating their bowels, so you would not panic if your baby went for a week without doing so. Has your baby done this before? Does your baby usually go infrequently? Never-the-less, if you have concerns, consult your doctor. I would not use laxatives, enemas or mineral oil.

Take the kid to the doctor. There is something wrong if the kid doesn't pass stools in that time. They might start with lactulose and glycerine suppositories to see if that would get things moving. If not, then they would need to see what else is happening. The decision about which way to go depends on some tests that we are unable to do via long distance.

I had the same problem with my daughter and even took her to the emergency clinic one evening knowing something was wrong and making her cry. They used a Q-tip with mineral oil on it and very gently stimulated the anal area. Don not poke or insert the Q-tip as it can cause damage. It worked like a charm. She was instantly relieved. We used this method several times after with great success. Don't feel weird about it. Just remember it's for your baby well being.

There are baby suppositories that can help the baby have a bowel movement. If this doesn't work call ask a nurse and find out what else you can do.

It's not unusual for babies to hold for up to 10 days. Is he appearing to have a discomfort because of that?
Feel his stomach - if you feel the hard lumps and he is in discomfort, maybe it's time to help him with an enema.
