Why did he try so hard to escape that terrible fate?
-He instructed his followers to arm themselves, even
if they had to sell their garments to buy swords! (Luke 22:36)

-He placed 8 desciples on guard at Gethsemane! (Mat. 26:36)

-He took the other 3 further in to form an inner line of defence! (Mat. 26:38)

-He cried: "Father save me from this hour"! (John 12:27) see also (Luke 22:44)

From the "call to arms" in the upper-room, and the deployment of forces at Gethsemane, and the blood-sweating prayer to the God of Mercy for help, it appears that Jesus knew nothing about the contract for his crucifixion. These are not the actions of no willing lamb to the slaughter I ever saw.

READ John 1 : 29 - 36 ( Jesus did not deny that he was the 'Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world' )

Matthew 16 : 21 says , "From that time forward Jesus Christ commenced showing his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the older men and chief priests and scribes, AND BE KILLED, and on the third day be raised up."

I don't think the answer to this will be found easily. Although this isn't the direct answer you are looking for, I would say the true answer is that we will never know the meaning of much scripture. Too many people wrote accounts of the life of Jesus, and most of them weren't even included in the Bible. Early counsels, churches and kings had a big hand in determining the content of the bible.

You will find that not once (even in the Bible itself) does Jesus ever commission such a book to be compiled. If it were that important, that we should stay stumped on the details, I think Jesus would have commanded that the book be written and made that commandment known. People wrote the book, people compiled the book, and at it's best it's already been through 3 translations by the time it hits us, so I don't think there is any way to make all scripture coincide.

Buddhists have an analogy they use about religious details. They say that worrying about the details is similar to being faced by a man with a gun. Instead of getting out of the way of the gun, you worry about what kind of bullet is in the gun. What is the brand name of the bullet? How much did the bullet cost? What quantity did these bullets come in? How old are the bullets? I think the point is that we will never know the truth about the details of any scripture, so living our lives the best we can is the key.

There are a lot of contradictions in the Bible (just search the net for "Biblical contradicitions.") and I think the key to understanding the Bible is to understand the universal themes of it, and to boil it down to the barest essence. There are a few absolute truths contained in the Bible, and it definitely has some major themes. As long as you are abiding by those, I think God would have to understand if you miss a few details along the way. :) Good luck to you.

He knew that that was his mission he said it many times through out his ministry. He warned his disciples about his fate and those who follow him, Imaging He knew it way before creation, of course his flesh didn't want to die but His Spirit was willing. If you read a little more in to the gospels you will notice that he always did the will of His Father and so you will see He went like a willing lamb to the slaughter.

Aside from your analyzing the statements above, I believe that Jesus knew from the beginning what His purpose was. God the Father, was called upon during these times, because Christ knew He was the sacrificial lamb, and as any human, He did not want to go thru the physical torture. Christ was a Spiritual being, as well as physical, as we are...
We should not translate or interpret Biblical accounts of Christ into something other than what the Bible teaches. Christ came to die for our sins, and we should be thankful to Him and to God for that...

You are misunderstanding something
Jesus prayed "If it is possible. take this cup from me.( ie; if there is another way) still thy will, not mine, be done"
He scolded the disciples for cutting off a soldiers ear trying to defend Him when they came for Him. He then healed the soldier.
On the cross, He said "why have you forsaken me?" because God turned from him because God cannot look upon sin. Jesus became sin, for us, while on the cross.

YES!...and despite that...He did the will of the Father...He was a human too..He had fears...had ambitions...had emotions...but nothing can change what the Father had willed Him...He could've commanded the army of angels when He was being captured yet He refused because He wants to save us...He wants us to be with Him...Just one word and God would let Him free yet He chose death so we could live

Matthew 16:21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go off to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised the third day.

Matthew 17:22 And while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill Him, and on the third day He shall be raised." And they were exceedingly sorrowful.

Matthew 20:17 And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, He took aside the twelve disciples privately on the road, and He said to them, 18 "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death, 19 and they will hand Him over to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He shall rise again."

Mark 8:31 And He began to teach them that it was necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise.

Luke 18:31 Then taking the twelve aside, He said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. 32 For He will be betrayed to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon, 33 and having scourged Him, they will kill Him. And on the third day He will rise again."

He knew Judas was going to rat on him, and even told him to go and do it quickly.
He didnt run away, but he could have.
He healed a soldier who came to arrest him.
He never changed his story, and was killed for it.
Having a hard time understanding why? Thought so. Stick to your video games and pot smoking. Maybe someday you'll open your mind and try to look at it from a non-Muslim point of view

He did not try to escape.
He did not tell them to arm themselves. He knew what was going to happen in Gethsemane with the ear.
He wanted his disciples to stay awake with him, that is not calling for violence Guy.
Christ more than once talked of his sacrifice. He knew it was to happen.
He never resisted his arrest and he told his disciples not to resist and he healed the ear of the guard to show he was Christ.

Then what was he defending himself for ? He was pleading with the father to not be seperated from him, but he knew that if he didn't die, we would be seperated from him forever. He saw you sitting in your chair falsifying scripture, and he loves you soooo soo much and desperately wants to save you. If you were the only person alive he would have died for you, please i urge that on your part you don't let his sacrifice be in vain.
