If you don't have a french keyboard or haven't enabled French in word, you can use ASCII codes to get characters with accents. The link provided below will help you.

Go to Tools then Language

Then click set Language

then Choose French - job done!

On word, click on 'insert' (at the top) then symbol. A display of characters appears and you should see the one you want. (scroll down for more if necessary)

There are shortcut keys.
Ctrl + ' (+ e, a, etc) for acute.
Ctrl + ` for grave.
Ctrl + ^ for circumflex
