if you can get the prescription shampoo it works much better than RID, also run all toys pillows and blankets through the dryer to kill the stragglers in your home.

This brings back memories and not good ones. My oldest daughter had super thick, long kinky curly hair when she was little and the school had an epidemic of lice. Call the pediatrician explain the situation and they will call you in a prescription shampoo. Go to the pharmacy and buy the spray and spray all furniture, beds, carpets everything that can't be washed soak it with the spray ( even if it isn't in her room and don't forget the car as well) wash all clothes, coats, pillows, blankets, everything that can go in the washer wash in hot water............toys spray and bag in a big bag for two weeks. This is just to treat it then you have to comb and pick through her hair to get rid of every egg there is. Go buy a black light put it in a lamp that you can hold in your hand and work through her hair. The black light makes the nits ( eggs) a lot easier to see. After you have combed and picked her hair clean.........it can take a day if it is bad.........mix baby oil and water in a spray bottle and lightly coat her hair use it like you would a detangler or stay in conditioner this will help prevent reinfestation. After you do all of this take her to the school and talk to the principle have them look at your childs head and show reciepts and details for what you have done at home and kindly tell them if they don't get the rooms treated you will be charging them for any future expense this causes. You can treat all you want at home but if they don't clean those rooms and get every child clean it will keep coming back.

Okay.... here is one way.... a bit messy.... but works....
We had a lice epidemic and now with school started again I am crossing my fingers we don't go through it again. I am a mother to 3 girls and we all have long hair it was a mess.
We used baby oil gel in our hair with a rubber cap on our heads over night (do not use platic bags or anything dangerous to a child). It smothers the little guys in their hair and they can not survive. Get a good lice comb. Comb hair with the oil in it in the morning. Comb the hair in layers to make sure you got as many as you can. If you find any after a good washing of the hair repeat. Oil will take a couple days to wash out completly. But once we used it they were gone. Some people have said to use mayo... I thought that was gross I stuck to baby oil!
You will also need to bag stuffed animals and toys that have fabric on them for about 2 weeks or put them in a really hot car for a day or two. You will need to throw pillows through the dryers, blankets, pretty much all bedding, jackets, and hats bucket. Remove all hair from brushes. Make sure you grab couch pillows too. They sell a spray you can use on furniture. I sprayed and within an hour vacuumed...... everything. Beds, couch, floors, anywhere they could hide.
Make sure you recheck your children everyday for a week to two weeks. Repeat process if they are still there.
You can get more information at headlice.org
Good LUck

You should consult a physician.
However, in some cases, when Lice is really bad, you have to shave off all the hair completely so that the lice are removed and they can't lay eggs.
However, if you're sure that the Lice is still coming from school, you should find out if they've pinpointed the source. Shaving off all your daughter's hair and making her wear a baseball cap only to have her repeat the process from contracting lice once again almost defeats the purpose.
You may want to check out some web sites on lice because this isn't an uncommon problem.

Go to this website. They use this lotion on their head. It is called Cetaphil. It is usually used for dry skin.. I think you just put it in your hair and leave it overnight. Easy enough.http://nuvoforheadlice.com/index.htm
Nuvo® Method for Head Lice is Now Available
What is the Nuvo Method treatment for head lice?
The Nuvo method is a breakthrough in the diagnosis and treatment of head lice. Described by Dr. Dale Pearlman in his research study that appeared in the September 2004 issue of the journal Pediatrics, the Nuvo method was 96% effective even though it involved no neurotoxins and required only minimal household cleanup.
Dr. Pearlman, writing in the December 2005 Pediatrics, announced that the lotion used in the research was Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser, a widely sold, soap-less cleanser for people with sensitive skin. For full instructions on how to use the Nuvo method with Cetaphil Cleanser, click here.
What makes the Nuvo method so special?
The Nuvo method gives patients and clinicians two things they have lacked until now: reliable treatment and accurate diagnosis.
Reliable Treatment
Standard over-the-counter treatments such as Nix® and Rid®, which poison the lice, often fail to cure because of the emergence of new strains of head lice which are resistant to the poisons. The Nuvo method, when used correctly, suffocates the lice and has been shown to clear up 96% of head lice infestations.
Accurate Diagnosis
Accurate diagnosis is the key to clearing up cases of persistent head lice. The Nuvo method includes an optional Lice Identification Test (LIT), which accurately finds lice and proves the child is infested now. The LIT can also disprove misdiagnoses which result from having nits from a prior infestation or dandruff stuck on hair.
How do I get more information?
For more information about the Nuvo method, look at our Frequently Asked Questions. If you need additional help, check out Our Services, where we offer the Lice Identification Test, and in-office consultations.
We regret that we cannot answer individual e-mail questions. However, if you feel that your question has not been answered on our web site, please send an e-mail to Mail@Nuvoforheadlice.com. From time to time, we will be posting the answers to additional FAQs.

What you need to do is take her to the dr. They will percribe something much stronger. You will need to redo all the bedding, toys, carpets pretty much anywhere she has sat or laid down. Also you need to put some kind of oil based agent on her hair to help remove the nits. Mayo, olive oil, crisco, baby oil, whatever you have available. And when you take her into school tell them you want everyone in her class checked since you have spent all the time and money on doing this. And if it continues to be a problem call the school board and tell them you NEED to have your daughter switch schools due to the lice problem at the one.

Try a different brand of treatment. Pick through her head strand by strand getting all the nits. You should spend at least 3 or 4 hours picking them out of her hair. Repeat the treatment 7 to 10 days later. Pick her head everyday to get any nits that weren't found. To help prevent it again use a blow dryer and hair products in her hair. Lice don't like the heat form the blow dryer. Same thing with hair gel and spray. My daughter has been using oil of rosemary behind her ears. Its supposed to help repel lice. I ordered it real cheap on line.

Head lice is something I am now just overcoming the problem with, by my children growing so not so much close head contact with others.
It only takes one child with headlice to infect the whole class with.
T-gel shampoo is good to help prevent but daily combing is best with a conditioner. If you have a child with a head full of eggs then get two plastic lice combs and put them together so the two rows of teeth are touching and then take through the head moving downwards. This method is brilliant for removing eggs and most combs can't get them as they are so tiny (freshly layed eggs=resembling black dots), this method never fails. The teeth have to be touching, with conditioner the eggs slide out and can't escape the scrape between the two rows of fine teeth
Regular combing with conditioner is best

i heard the same thing from a friend of mine about her daughter. she tried regular old olive oil. she put it in her hair left it on with a bag on for 2 hours. she said that it woked great it kills the bugs and made getting the eggs off so easy. she said over the weekend she did it 2 times and by the time school started again on monday that she had none. her hair she said was a little oily but she had no lice. by the way the little girl had long think hair.
i also heard that if you use mayo and peanut oil it works the same way.
best of luck.

My daughter had it once. Before she even entered school sadly. You must not only kill the bugs in the hair, you have to treat your home, and car too. With some of your left over solution, mix 1/4 rid with 3/4 water in a small spray bottle. Wash all clothes or bed linen your child has been in contact with in hot water. Boil all hair brushes, combs, hair ties, etc. in a pot, or throw them away and buy new. I suggest vacuuming your couch and love seat cushions as well as bed matresses. When you are finished change your vacuum bag and spray inside of your vacuum with your solution mixture. Also treat all of your bare matresses, and couches with your solution and allow to dry. Spritz your solution on the headrests and seats of your car. I know it seems extreme, but I took all these precautions and that was that. Make sure you do not spray near or around your children and allow all fabric to air dry before you make the beds or sit on furniture.

first of all I feel for you.....but you should not feel bad the lice likes clean hair so at least she is not dirty .......mayo....sounds gross huh put mayo on her head and wrap it in a plastic bag leave it on for an hour it smothers the bugs and eggs because they can not get air ............also if this keeps reoccurring like it did with my child call your local health department and make a complaint then the will do a whole school check and get it taken care of .....then every child will have to be checked upon entering the school this is what I did .......and wash all blankest and toys curtains spray furniture I know it sucks but it works.....WISHING YOU LUCK
