I have cancelled sky digital and moved to freeview, im am currenlty using an internal ariel but iv had an idea that i can change the connection on my sky cable and use my dish as an external ariel. will this work and if so will it get me any extra channels?

Yep, it will work. You will have to re-program to get the extra free view channels channels... but then thats just about all your getting.

I'm not sure, but I do know that if you plug your old sky box into your dish and tv you can buy a card (for about a tenner) that will allow you to watch all the freeview channels through Sky (plus a few that you probably wouldn't normally be able to pick up). This is definitely a good option if your aerial signal is weak.

It probably won't work, but try it anyway. Just connect the co-ax to your freeview and try it out. I suspect that it will jork as a poor aerial, since it's supposed to pick up satellite signals, but freeview is broadcast from terrestrial transmitters.
You're better off putting a decent aerial in your loft.
For the best possible signal, use a splitter (that would normally use one signal to feed 2 tv's) backwards and connect two aerials to one box.

No. If you want to use the dish system you need 'Freesat' from Sky. Card costs about £20 100+ channels & radio
