I think it is because lawlessness, deception, cheating, lying, abusing, etc. is being exceedingly multiplied and it is resulting to the embarrassment, puzzlement and finally the indifference of hearts.
It was prophesied by Jesus Christ himself when he said "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." (Mathew 24:12)

Because the Age of Innocence died a long time ago.

People are more suspicious now, and rightly so - if you try to help someone you could get sued (as is the fashion in the States and UK right now) if you make a mistake - or you could be taken advantage of.

However, thankfully - there are still people willing to help others, mostly it is on a large scale - such as charitable and volunteer groups. On an individual basis there are a number of philanthropists around and generally people like you and I are usually willing to help someone, it's just that we all do so with caution.

I know people who, as individuals help sponsoring kids in third world countries, I also know people who will give their loose change to a beggar.

If you can remain willing to help- even if it is just giving someone a useful answer to a question, whilst being aware that occasionally you will be taken advantage of, then it is worthwhile.

That depends where you are, charities are on a larger scale for allsorts of reasons, alot more people do fund raising events, and even in local schools they are raising cash all the time.I have old neighbours that i look in on and friends that need support.,if you live in small communities its different than in the city.Charities however are created alot on the tv(where i am they are) and you send money in.I think a lot is how your brought up,its nice to be kind.

Hi!

It is a simple prophecy of the END TIMES:

2Timothy 3:2-4 "FOR PEOPLE WILL BE LOVERS OF SELF, LOVERS OF MONEY, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

Hug!

I don't know where you live but Houston is the help capitol of the world....now if you're just asking about hand-outs, that's often enabling, unless you've lost everything in a hurricane.

What's that give 'em a fish, teach 'em to fish verse from the bible?

We found out how much hatred is out in the world.
I used to take food, clothing and furniture over to destitute people in the barrio and in the poor black neighborhood with my dad and his friends.
I wouldn't do that now, since reading on YA how much Mexicans and blacks hate us. They best help their own.

If you live in the U.S.

It's because you have been trained to rely on the Gov, for help, more than your own family. Your own family has let the Gov, "adopt" you and help you, to relieve them.

sad but true.
