He made the comments on purpose. He wanted to cause an uproar, like what happened with the Danish cartoons.

His claims about Prophet Muhammed (Peace be upon him) were totally false and baseless.

He should have rather commented on the crusades and on how the Christians put so many people to death.
He should have not done what he did. It was a calculated move to cause trouble and that is what he got!

Firstly, I don't know why people are continuing to post the same sort of questions so long after the event as it just adds fuel to the fire. I don't believe the Pope meant any harm by what he said. I do believe that the Muslims went over the top, as usual, burning an effigy of the Pope and calling for his murder. They then went on to murder a nun - who called for her killer to be forgiven. If only THEY could follow HER example!

well thats sitting on the fence. said and done and yet again say that it was out of context and misunderstood. the question now arises -- when the Pope had so many Historian's quotes appreciating Muhammed-pbuh, why did the Pope choose to quote a Byzantine Emperor -- the emperor who had killed many people himself. and next time may be the media should be more careful -- not to give "out of context stuff" on TV.

As best as I can understand what he was trying to quote a Byzantine Emperor who made the statement to justify the killing of Muslims. He quoted this emperor in an attempt to discredit this line of thinking by showing how foolish it was.
This just shows the evil nature of these extremists who have taken something out of context in order to incite violence against Christians, in particular, and Westerners, in general.

I think from what I've heard (which isn't all of it, i'm sure) he made a fairly valid point. Even if it isn't his point but that of someone who has been dead for hundreds of years. The more things change, the more they stay the same, eh?

**I know, I know, the AUDACITY of him to say anything negative about Islam. Like Muslims don't talk crap about other religions. Hypocrites.**
