I was wondering, if you are in a restraurant or another place that is independantly owned, and you are being serviced by the owner of the establishment are you still required to tip them? I understand tipping wait staff and other employees, since they make there wages almost strictly from tips (US). However, the owner makes the wage directly from the business.

Well, even with waiters you aren't Required to tip, per se. It's just often exptected. I would say the the basis of the tipping of wait staff is not that they get paid less but because the perform a valuable service. For example, it's customary to tip delivery people and hairdressers even though they make a consitent salary. So ultimately i would say that it's probably best to tip even if you're being served by the owner.

Tips are intended to reward the quality of the service, therefore the answer is yes.

It's no different than bringing a bottle of wine when a friend invites you for dinner or sending a thank you gift after being someone's houseguest.

in my opinion you should only tip if you are really satisified with the service, no matter who is serving you if the service stinks then NO tip is required.

It all depends on how you feel at the moment. If you feel like giving a tip...then be my guest. If not...it's no problem!
