They call it putting lipstick on a hog.

This is meaningless legislation, doesn't fix the problem, but it allows the fat cats in DC to have a quick vote so they can go on local TV and brag about passing a law that people were talking about.

ID to vote??? Hey, we're not far from a national ID card. Might as well get your passport. If we have to run to Canada to dodge the draft you'll need a passport after Jan. 2007.

It is not necessarily due to 9/11.After what happened on that day I would not blame our people if they see 9/11 in each and every step the government takes. It is like Kamsa in the story of Krishna who began to spot the image of Krishna in everything-his drinks, meals etc. Of course, if this myth gets around government will not counter it as it would facilitate their action in imposing still stricter steps. For one thin gthe Mexian immigration problem dates well before 9/11.The problem has also become rather acute with the growing insistence of the young americans(read hispanics) for a Spanish national song. The fact that a Hispanic in some cases is almost indistinguishable from a White American further complicates the problem. With blacks it waseasire, thought I know some mixed blood blacks easily can pass of as Euripeans-a Chairman ofthe Association for the Advancement of Coloured People was a case in point. The Mexican immigrants come more looking for work and the emplopyers here also find it quite profitrable to take them on because of the low wages. So long as this incentive is there fencing will always develop gaps . Moreovee people on the borders have affinities. In India during the Indo-Pak war os 1965 some villages on the Rajsthan-Sind borders has related people on both sides with diferent nationalities. The sources of water are meagre in the area and people from across the border would normally bring their cattle for water on the Indianside. This was OK in peace time but what about the raging war. However, the Indian side people prevailed upon the Indian forces to look theother way while the cattle across had their fill. This is camarderi on the borders. What are your border fencing going to do? You cannot control a rider by pressing him down when the horse is jumping. You will have to control the horse.Look into genuine cases and show utmost consideration in deserving cases. I know, you know and everybody knows that ID is a comouglage only. They say God made the country and man made the town. But countrieis are also man made. They were OK when they were made earlier but with the changing times the borders are going bound toaccommodate each other a bit.

unfortunately this is all a red herring to get american citizens focused on immigration vs. war on terror. Is this all bout November. Yes. Who needs the votes. Republicans. They control the White House AND the Senate. It's a lot easier passing agendas that concern you the most when you hold the cards.

to be a country built by immigrants you would think there would be a degree of sympathy. I've yet to see anyone from south of the border with a bomb or making terrorist threats. latinos want basically what everyone on the planet wants...viable wages to support a comfortable way of life.

Well if they finally do something it would be nice,I consider this only a start,we need to reestablish that this is our country and coming in requires our permission. My representative in congress will never vote for any of this. REP. Charlie Gonzales of Tx has decided that we belong to mexico apperantly, and that they can come in at will and do what they wish no matter how many laws they break, and any attempt to secure our borders or enforce our laws is considered racism by him apparently. Good thing someone is finally doing something about it.

A step in the right direction, but only a step. Just remember 196 Demos voted against the measure because they fear it will keep people from voting twice, they believe their voters are too stupid to get a card, felons could not vote, nor illegals and their bus drivers would be out of work since they would not have to bus voters from state to state.

If they don't get it passed before the November election, vote the bums out. It's time we get a congress that works for legal Americans and a president that does what's right for middle Americans for a change. Any legal citizen can get a photo ID. If your not legal you have no right to vote in our elections.

i will consider sorts of legislations requiring distinct "approval" ranges, yet i do not imagine each little thing must be seventy 5. If it were, then in reality you should in result filibuster each little thing with out the will for a filibuster. All you should do is save 26 individuals on the nay aspect. What i ought to opt to work out are authentic filibusters really than those "gents's" filibusters. The filibuster changed into in no way meant to offer up legislations. truly... It changed into meant to be a protest. enable a senator to communicate till he drops to exhibit the braveness of his convictions and then get on with the artwork accessible. and that i trust you should save the veto means of the president as between the checks and balances it truly is important to our authorities.
