Florida probably has a similar climate to Mumbai and there, many homes have terrazzo floors which I believe is a combination of cement and ceramic or marble chips. It is nearly indestructible and remains cool in hot, humid climates. Also easy to clean and doesn't stain like marble. The only drawback is it is permanent and needs professional installation.

Spanish tiles, in general, are simpler, therefore more neutral and less expensive, but make it easier to match or mix your furniture and accessories. Italian can be much more ornate and more expensive with a more defined/specific color palette. So it depends on your budget. I have Spanish tile on about 70% of my floors and it's very adjustable as to the furniture and/ or accessories.

In the United States, laminate flooring (wood, treated with plastic) is becoming very popular. How well it would fit in with Indian architecture, I have no idea. I am planning to replace my wall-to-wall carpeting with laminate.
