I am 12wks pregnant and I have yet to tell my boss as I am waiting for my temps job to go permanant here (should be by tomorrow that I know). However, I am feeling so guilty for not saying anything - should I tell them and risk that they won't give me the job because of maternity leave and pay etc.?
I am so confused and mixed up. Am so excited as this is my first child and yet it's being tarnished by this..
What should I do

You're under no obligation to say anything to anyone! They can't sack you for being pregnant. You will have to tell them eventually, as you will need to make arrangements for maternity leave, but I certainly wouldn't mention it until your permanent contract has been settled. Good luck and congratulations!

I had this exact problem. I was temping for a company who said they would employ me permanently once I'd been there 12 weeks. After about 4 weeks I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant. I was terrified they would 'let me go', but bit the bullet and told them immediately. In fact I told them before I told my husband. My direct manager was very sympathetic and asked me if I still wanted the job! Of course I did - since then they've done everything they can to make me feel comfortable and secure. Whilst I don't qualify for any maternity pay, I do still get up to 6 months off and a guarantee of my job to come back to. There are laws surrounding this, which I later found out. If they have already offered you the job, or made it clear they will take you on permanently, they can't retract that offer solely because you're pregnant - that's discriminatory.

Best of luck with your job, and your pregnancy.

Have a baby, of course.

Always remember, they have been where you are. Usually.
Sadly, odds are the temp/perm job will likely lay you off in about the 6th month even if it goes permanent, regardless.

Ride it out as you can until you have family and if you like the work you do, and are good at it, request maternity leave around 6 months when you begin to show. Most companies will accomodate. Congratulations, and wait, if the position is worth it.

Never seen a tarnished baby. Let me know if you ever find one.
:-)

Personally I would wait. I know you probably feel guilty but most companies would think twice about offering you a permenant position knowing they'll have to pay maternity pay etc and have you absent for maternity leave.

It is illegal for them to discriminate against you in this way due to your pregnancy but how can you prove thats why they've not offered you the position?

I'd wait a week or two then tell them. Just say you didn't know until then.

Good luck with your pregnancy and baby x

well- that is a tough spot to be in-I would wait to tell- esp if it was a big company- and you are of child bearing age- are you on the insurance- or does that only happen when you are not a temp?- some insurance does not cover a pre-existing condition- like pregnancy-so- it depends- is maternity leave 6 weeks? Hopefully they will be happy for you- congratulations! D

I think your right waiting for your job to go permanent, before telling them, otherwise if they knew you would still be on temp.
you have rights when your pregnant regarding work situations and your employers have to obey these rules.

I would definitely wait until you find out about your permanent contract. Although it is illegal for them to fire you just for being pregnant - they still do it. They just find some legal justification for it. I would wait til tomorrow when you find out, then, wait another few days (I know it's hard, but if you tell them that same day, they'll know that you knew and were not up front with them. That may tarnish your reputation with them right from the start.)

So wait maybe another week(if that) and then tell them.

Congratulations, and good luck!

If you get the permanent job wait a few days to a couple of weeks then let you boss know that you just found out that you were pregnant.

wait!
You legally don't have to tell them until you are 15 weeks so wait until that day. and explain to them how good they have been and how much you like working there and that you didn't want to tell them earlier because it was to early in the pregnancy, I'm sure they will understand you are still going to give them 5 solid months of hard work and depending on what you feel maybe a life time of commitment after you return. enjoy this baby, be proud to be pregnant. It happens all the time all over the world.

This is a big dilemma, like you say you could be risking your permanent job by telling them, but lets face it you are already 3 months into your pregnancy and very soon when this does come out they are not going to be happy that you did not let them know and it will be apparent that you kept it from them. In this situation I would risk it and tell them and at least your conscious is clear.

most women that are prego do not tell others until they are about 12 weeks anyhow because this is like a safety time that is finally gotten through. Just tell them in a few days and let them know that you wanted to make sure the pregnancy was safe first. Just tell them and don't worry about it. If you are healthy and hard working, there shouldn't be a problem.
