I have been on and off anti-depressants for most of my adult life. I was pushed to ask for them again because of extreme anxiety that I have never experienced before. I have not started them yet but have found that my anxiety has lessened somewhat just by having the pills in my posession. I hate the thought of daily pills, but I also hate the thought of future panic attacks. I also like wine once in awhile. I'm not an idiot. I know that the doctor would say no alcohol. Just looking for some real life stories.

I have taken Lexapro for the past several years. Prior to that, I've been on Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, etc. I have both depression and anxieties. Lexapro has been working very well for in both areas. The only thing I hate about anti-depressants are the sexual side effects. For a male this can be a very frustrating problem. For a female, it may not be as big an issue.
About the wine, well, I have a cholesterol problem as well as my depression and anxiety. My physician first asked me if I had a problem with alcohol. I said no, then she said one glass of red wine every night before I go to bed will help lower my cholesterol and help me sleep. She also knows I'm on the Lexapro because she prescribed it for me. So for me it works out just fine, but it may be different for other people. You should consult your doctor.

Lexapro is an SSRI, I am using it for 4 months now. 2 drinks a day occasionally is not a problem for me. But it increases the sedative effect of lexapro. I took prozac for more than 5 years in my life. SSRIs are very safe. Now I am switching to Bupropion because of sexual dysfunction.
If you do not like daily pills you can use Prozac Weekly.

I took Lexapro for about 1 year and although the side effects were minimal, it just didn't take the edge off. I'm now prescribed Prosac and I feel a lot better.
Here's Lexapro's official website for more information:

My boyfriend is on Lexapro and he loves it. He says his anxiety is gone, as is his depression. He's happy, productive at work - so much so he's being considered for a promotion now.
His only negative side-effect is sexual in nature, but I won't go into detail on that one. It's not a terrible side-effect and as long as he's happy, I'm happy for him.

i was on lexapro, zoloft, zyprexa and lithium....none of them helped me too much, altho lexapro made me zombie-like, so my dr took me off of it. Lithium made me emotionless. I guess its different for everybody. I think the main thing that helped me was, I found the love of my life and quit drinking. It's unbelievable what drinking can do to you. Good luck:)
