How long in advance? 2 weeks, 3 weeks? I'm also including our family's holiday portrait, if that makes a difference.

Any time in December. It would be tacky to send them out before December and January would make you seem unorganized. If you want return cards send them out the first week in December. If you intend them as gifts send them out the second week.

No earlier than the day after Thanksgiving and no later than December 1st.......
You optimally want the cards to arrive in early December so they can be enjoyed for several weeks then put away with the rest of the Christmas trappings in the week or so around New Years..

I send mine out the beginning of December, that way i no there gone and and concentrate getting ready for Christmas. TJx
