I mean, I got a "C" in English throughout High School (only because I was stoned most of the time), but still know the difference between "your" and "you're."

Is the English language changing, or does anyone care anymore that they spell like a retard?

I don't think anyone cares. They get worked up and just type without thinking. I mean have you read any of the answers on here? A lot sound as though the person who wrote it didn't think

People are not taught the English language nowadays!
Most spelling is taken off the computer which is generally American English and the spell checker does not differentiate between "your" and "you're".
By the way, I didn't even reach a "C" in high school!!!

You are right the language is being damaged by the new generation. Yes, this is a shame as we all should preserve what has been invented by the old generation.
However, the world is changing as time goes by so we all need to adapt to the changing.
This is the real world that we are living in.

It's all to do with the mobile phone text generation.

Even I am guilty of shortening words when sending a text, just because it's faster.

Watch this space - in a few years it will be classified as 'Common Usage' and the Dictionaries will add these shortened words.

Hop ths hlps !!!

they don't. actually it is a contraction not an abbreviation and it is contracted as you're which eliminates a vowel similar to don't, can't, won't, didn't ( which eliminates the vowel "o" ). As to the second part of your question you're is a contraction whilr your is a pronoun indicating ownership such your car or your house.

Chalk it up to ignorance and the rise of mediocrity as being the new standard for written communication.
