I am in Hyderabad, India. What should I look for in a washing machine. Some say that you have to look for the power. I am a little bit confused.

Buy a known brand that satisfies all your requirements. All recognised brands have good products.
Look at the capacity of the machine.
Hot / warm water options in case you need to wash very dirty clothes.
If you are going in for a fully automatic model make sure you always have running water in the taps.
Semi automatic is better considering the water / electric situation everywhere.
You could buy a semi automatic with a dryer facility. Good for the monsoons.
I have an LG and have been using it since1999, no problems.
