I just started out potty training a week and 5 days ago. At night and for naps she still sleeps with a diaper (not a pull up) but the last 4 nights and for a really long time with her naps she has been waking up dry. Could we cut back the diapers completely or should we wait?

You are kind of old to just start potty training aren't you?

Sorry, I couldn't resist, your question was just screaming for an answer like that.

If she is waking up with dry diapers then it is definitely time for you to begin her potty training process. Just make sure you are consistent in working with her.

Put a plastic sheet or something under the regular sheet to protect her matress in case of "accidents" so that the matress doesn't get ruined and then take her out of diaper all together, no diapers, no pull-ups, just regular underwear.

She's a big girl now and she needs to be told that and that it means she doesn't need diapers anymore and that if she needs to pee or pooh that she should use the commode to do that.

Be sure to always praise her when she wakes up dry or when she uses the potty like a big girl does. Praise goes a long way, babies really do want to please you as much as possible because they like the attention it brings upon them.

Good luck.

I have two girls that I potty trained 17 and 9 years ago. LOL The biggest advice my Pediatrician gave me was that when they could make it through night time or a nap then it was time to potty train. My advice would be to cut out the diapers. You might have an accident once in awhile, but sometimes little ones don't realize that they want to use the toilet all the time until they have an accident and find out they don't like how uncomfortable it is.

Keep an extra set of sheets ready and go for it. You will have some messes to clean up and a baby to bath but it's worth it to not have to change diapers. Just stay calm when there is an accident let her know that she has to get up and go potty when she feels it coming. She will learn to anticipate the urge because she will not like waking up wet. If she has issues over night set your alarm clock for a certain time every night such as 3am. Go in, walk her to the potty and then tuck her back in bed. This gets her into the habit of waking up to go. I did that for 1 week and neither of my sons had an accident after that week.

It all depends if you wanna do laundry more or not. I would lose the diapers completely, and go straight to underwear. Thats what I did. They potty-train quicker even though it may be messy and you might have to get your carpets done and buy some new sheets it'll be a success quicker.

I guess it would depend on how old your child is, and how ready she is. I, personally found that when I potty trained my first daughter, putting her in underwear for bed before she was ready was hard on her. She got very upset when she had accidents because she made a "mess" on her bed and got everything all wet. No matter how we told her accidents were ok, she didn't accept that. We went back to pull ups and she decided when she was ready and it's been great ever since. So, I would have to say that you need to let your child decide. It's easier on them, and there really is no reason to rush it. :) Hope I helped

I would wait on the night time but cut back on the nap and see what happens

smart *** remarks...eww! anyways, i'd switch to "big girl" diapers (training pants) for a few weeks and see how that works, make sure to let her know how proud you are of her for doing so good! make the training pants sound like a reward for doing so well at night/naps, she'll get it! youre obviously doing something right! keep it up =)

Switch to a pull up, because if it's dry you can reuse it, and they are more like big kid undies.
