It happens to me when I eat pizza. Maybe it gets inflamed when it gets burned by hot steamy food.

I get that all the time from brushing the back of my teeth, the tooth brush scraped your gums, and it gets immflamated and then it hurts to eat or drink something hot, or crunchy, I know what your talking about, I get that often, you just have to be careful when your brushing your teeth

I use to get that when I ate hard candy or spicy foods. When you take a bite of something it usually touches the forefront of the roof of your mouth. Next time you bite down on something take note of where it touches your mouth first.

Sounds like pizza burn, which is the name we use for ANY food burn in that area.

Or, if you have a deep bite, you may be hitting the gum back there and sometimes you hit it harder than others.

check with your dentist to see if you have gingivitas. if you do you can treat it before it becomes periodontal disease-that cannot be cured.
