Praise the LORD that you did NOT do the "jehova thing". That is a good thing. I have some experience with that because my mom became a JW before I was born. But the LORD protected me because my dad raised me in a liberal Protestant church.
That was a good beginning but I experienced some of the troubles of life as an adult and suddenly the liberal church just didn't fill the emptiness in my life. That is when I started reading the Bible from cover-to-cover, did some church-shopping and finally found a Bible-believing church that is great!
My advice is read a Bible like The Daily Walk Bible which gives just enough info about each day's reading to put the material into context.
Go TOWARDS the WAY,
Go TOWARDS the TRUTH,
Go TOWARDS the LIGHT.
You can only find that in a Relationship (NOT a religion) with Jesus Christ.
I think it might be a common feeling after leaving the JWs to feel dissatisfied and lost. One of my cousins left them 3 years ago after being with them for 40 years. It has taken her a while to get her equillibrium back.

I can't really tell you what religion would be best for you, but having done the same thing (searching, studying for a few years, etc) I can offer some simple advice.
1) look at the teachings of the religion and what they say they believe. If they best represent your own experiences of the divine then definately consider those religions.
2) pray/meditate on the decision(s). Do so for atleast a set period of time (2-3 weeks is good). Be consistent, you're looking for guidance from the divine to help align you to the religious perspective that not only reflects your own experiences of the divine but also will hopefully lead you to a deeper experience/understanding/etc of the divine
3) what is your spiritual goal(s)? Do the religions you've selected provide practices, tools, etc to help you reach them?
4) look deep into the religion....the various branches, denominations, sects, subsects, etc so that you gain a good understanding of the diverse views held and consider where you most fit into these categories (if at all).
5) pray/meditate - seriously I can't emphasize this enough. Meditating on the decision, praying to the divine for guidance and really listening to the divine for answers (clues) really helps.
6) learn what the process of conversion is (if there is one). I'm sure you've probably already done this, but go back and look again. Make sure you understand the change you are making
7) finally deeply contemplate the change you are making, the changes you will need to make in your life, and contemplate the pros and cons (just of the beliefs not the cultural/political aspects)
If you are feeling drawn towards Islam then definately pray/meditate and study it. The best thing to do before officially going through any conversion process, though, is start to actually practice the religion. Put the religion into practice in your life. Start doing the requirements. This way you know exactly what you need to be doing and will have a feel for it. Do this for atleast 30 days. Why 30 days? Because anything you do for 30 days becomes habit and it shows commitment (if you're still doing it after 30 days then you're definately serious, committed, and unless you have any doubt still in your mind, you are ready for the next step). The next step, go to a fellowship, house of worship, or someplace where you can be around people who practice the religion and practice with them. How did this go? Did you enjoy it? Is it necessary in the religion to do this or is private worship, practice, fellowship considered to be equal, better, etc to public forms?
That's the process I took after I decided that I wanted to possibly be a Hindu. After the few months that I took to really study more indepth the religion and all the prayer/meditation, and so on and then actually applying the practices to my everyday life and then ultimately going to visit a Hindu temple, by the time I visited the Hindu temple there was no doubt that I had found the religion that best reflected my experiences of the divine. Visiting the temple solidified my resolve to "convert" (although Hinduism doesn't actually have any official conversion process...it varies from temple to temple, sect to sect, group to group, etc).
I wish you blessings and good fortune on your journey and may God guide you.
Peace be upon you.

Why don't you dig a little deeper into Christianity by exploring Charismatic Christians, otherwise known as Spirit Filled. They have great praise and worship and I believe that they are the closest to the truth. They are a lot of fun and exciting and I enjoy attending. Check it out and let me know what you think. Try the Vineyard Church or a Nondenominational Church that believes in the Baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues.

PLEASE do not convert.. i beg you to please not.
might i explain why..
in the qu'ran, there is a verse that says that the earth settles in a muddy pool.. this was a way go make ppl convert, because they thought it was true. at the time, mohammed was worried about getting ppl to convert, not about future and science.. he didn't realize the world would progress. so he put that, to make ppl say "ohh, this seems right" and convert.
also, why would god wait SIX HUNDRED YEARS to send down the "last prophet?" come on now.. SIX HUNDRED YEARS. the other prophets didn't take that long in between.
if you do intense research on religion, you will know that allah all roots back to the pagans. the pagans worshipped hundreds of gods.. and who was the god for the moon? hmm, let's think.. allah. now mohammed got the bible, torrah, and so forth, and did lots of research on it.. he found where the questions were.. and he knew that if he answered them, he would get ppl [like you] to convert. so that's what he did.
he forced mecca to convert, and if the ppl didn't, they would be killed. they had no choice. they moved on to medina, and other cities in saudi arabia. then, the arabs conquered egypt, turkey, and other nations, forcing islam on them.
islam also says the earth hangs on something.. but we don't.. the earth floats!! but mohammed, at that time, said "well, there is no way it floats like the bible says, so it must hang on something" so he added that.
the qu'ran says that god sent down the bible.. well in the bible it says the earth is a circle and hangs on nothing.. so what, did "allah" just change his mind in the qu'ran and decide that the earth was supposidely flat, and that it hangs on something. science knows that the qu'ran was wrong!! yet to this day STILL, in saudi arabia, clerics say "the ppl who go outer space are a bunch of christians who make up the earth being round for the bible, but they know it's really flat." oh come on now!! we all know the earth is round!!
the qu'ran has shari'ah.. the shari'ah says to KILL gays.. yes, you may disagree with someone being gay, but you would really want to KILL THEM?? come on now!!
if you switch to anything, i would encourage you switch to Unitarian Universalist.. there, you can have your own set of beliefs.. UU's can be anything.. chrsitian, pagan, jewish, hindu, athiest, anything!! it's a liberal and open minded religion. Dave Chappel is a UU... did you know he is acutally a muslim? but he is liberal. he doesn't like shari'ah.. he drinks. so he is a UU.. because if he wants to disagree with parts, he can!! if he wants to do things without getting in trouble by muslims, he can!!
please don't become a muslim..

Islam is the religon of peace. i agree that muslims are having troubles nowdays...BUT!!! muslims will get a reward on the last day of judgement. actually its a very good decision to change the religion from christianity to islam... and ALLAH INSHALLAH will reward u with his blessings if u folow the right path of Quran and Prophet Muhammad's teachings. seek only Allah's Guidance. try to accept islam before Ramadan, fast in this month and seek Allahs blessing and make full use of it.. than INSHALLAH u will feel peace in your heart and relaxed.. bcoz this indeed is a very xcellent decision!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

I congradualte you brother into recognizing the truth. Ofcourse all religons were sent from GOD but, over time, people made changes in them to benifit their own material desires. Allah says in Quran, "Woe to those who right the book with their own hands, and then claim that it is from God, woe to those what they write, and woe to those what their hands earn."
We as muslims should respect all faiths and all prophets since islam is the only faith which makes it an artical of faith to belive in all prophets sent by God including Jesus and Moses.
I would recommend that you read the Quran in language you understand best. If you any question regarding Islam, I will be glad to personally help you out. You can mail me at mustafahasn@yahoo.com. If I dont no an answer I will search one for you by asking learned schloar. May God Bless you.

If you need any information on Islam, feel perfectly free to message me. My email is zanyb13@gmail.com.
But only convert to Islam if that is what your heart tells you. Don't let factors such as family, media, politics, etc... influence you, but then again, the worstthing you could be is misinformed. Research Islam as much as possible, and make sure you're researching the religion itself, not what people have twisted it to be. Best of luck, my friend, and may you find religious satisfaction whatever you choose.

Go with what your heart tells you to. My mother was raised Baptist and now she is Muslim and she feels closer to God than ever. I'm Catholic myself but I take what I like from other religions including Islam. Do what feels right in your heart.

I don't know all the differences in religion so I suggest that, if you haven't already, you read his word, translate it to your heart the way you believe he means for you to understand. I feel that you will make the right decision for yourself. I do ask that you take into account the morals and beliefs that you have conquered in your life when you make your decision and remember He loves you so always believe and love Him. God Bless
