If assisted suicide is wrong.........
then how is a life support machine right?
man invented both.
Helloooooooo???????
The Bible is very clear in Hebrews. God can shorten or lenghten your life. So..why is man trying to do either one?

It has to be a person's choice via a living will and no other way.
Would you kill a baby because he can't take care of himself? He has no knowledge of his surroundings (similar to alzheimers), he can change his own diapers (similar to stroke), he can't feed himself (similar to a paraplegic), he can't talk yet (simialar to stroke), and so many other things that run a parallel to an older person. Why draw the line at age? It doesn't make sense to take a baby's life any more than it makes sense to take an older person's life.
At least with an older person they CAN have a choice in it by having a living will in place and making sure someone knows it exists and where it is located so that if a situation occurs that would call for the use of it then it can be brought forth and used.
A baby can't make that decision any more than someone who is in a coma and has no living will. They should be allowed to live if possible, but I would say it should be without extreme measures to keep them alive, but they should not be deliberately put to death, that is murder in anybody's book, including the Bible.
Good luck to everyone and hopefully you should never have to be put into a position where you will have to make that decision.

Doctor assisted suicides with adequate assurances that it truly is the dying person's decision. Oregon has many safeguards and the actual rate of use is fairly low. In my view, there is nothing crueler than taking away someone's ultimate personal decision, which is what physically can happen at the end stage of some illnesses.

I don't believe in suicide, doctor assisted or not. Suicide is suicide and the Bible says that is an unforgivable sin. GOD never puts too much on us that we can't bear. If He has us hanging around, it's for a reason. Maybe not to benefit you, but someone else. Maybe that person is a message that GOD is trying to send to you. IF you shut up and listen to GOD long enough, you just might hear the message and let that person go in peace.

I think it is more humane to let people die if that's what they want. If somebody doesn't want to suffer endlessly or wouldn't have wanted to be kept alive by machines if they were braindead or something, who are we go force them to? We shouldn't go against their will and keep them alive at any cost and prolong their suffering. That just seems pure wrong to me.
Some people say we shouldn't play God, but then those people actively try to keep someone alive with machines or desperately try to cure them. Isn't that playing God too? If God is trying to let them die and people do what they can to prevent that?
What if the person who wants their sufferings to end doesn't believe in God? Is it right to let believers keep them alive and suffering endlessly to please their God, something they can't even know for sure that exists and the suffering person doesn't believe in? Who are they to control the lives (or death) of others?
I hope that if I ever end up in the position to be suffering and kept alive by machines with no chance of recovery or ever being able to enjoy life again, that there will be some humane people around who would let me die.
I think euthanasia should be allowed, but of course under strict conditions to prevent people from abusing the option.

This person who hooked up to machines, with bedsores several inches deep......may wake up one day, if you believe in miracle. Are the doctor forcing him to live, or it's his own will to live, no one able to answer. A life is more important than moral.

Personally, I feel that someone's body is their own possession, and it's their, and only their, right to decide what to do with it. Nobody else can possibly step inside someone else's skin and decide what's best for them, and if someone who has no chance of living (or even someone who does but just doesn't want to) wants to end their life, whether it be physician-assisted or no, then they should be able to with no one to stand in their way.
Whether it's morally correct or not to anyone besides the suffering person is irrelevant.

Kick out the cord on your way out the door.
My parents are thinking of moving to Oregon (or is it Washington?) because that is the last state offering assisted suicide. The last thing they want is exactly what you posted. They are both almost 80 and have seen their parents with tubes in their arms looking at them with confusion in the hospital room.
Morals? I call it money. State imposed ethics. And it pisses me off.

The new "House" episode last night dealt with this same topic. It was very interesting. I think it is completely ridiculous we recognize how inhumane it is to let animals suffer through terminal illness, so we euthanize them, but for some reason we consider it murder to give a human the right to choose when they die. When you euthanize an animal they have no choice in the matter, so that is way more like murder. respecting someones choice to not live in pain and giving them a humane way to die does not seem like murder to me. it seems like the moral and right thing to do.

You did not offer DEATH WITH DIGNITY!
Doctor assisted used to be called Murder-Second Degree.
~~~~~``
Hooked up is IMMORAL and should be illegal.
My wife and I have LIVING WILLS so that will NOT be done to either of us!
