It is the Jewish New Year. It is coming up soon. It begins at sundown on September 22. That is this Friday Night and lasts until Sundown on the 23. Some celebrate it for 48 hours. It is also known as The Feast Of Trumpets. It is Jewish tradition to blow the Shofar, which is also known as the Ram's Horn. If you want the traditions, go to http://www.ou.org/chagim/roshhashannah/customs.html
I am a Christian, but I celebrate this Holiday because I believe that Jesus will return to Earth during this time of the year. The Feast Of Trumpets ushers in ten days of repentence, known as the Days of Awe. Then Yom Kipper is Celebrated, otherwise known as The Day Of Atonement. Then the Feast of Tabernacles is ushered in shortly afterwards. That is when God will Tabernacle(Dwell) with us.

Its Rosh Hashana, its the Jewish new year.

Rosh means literally Head
Shana means year

At Rosh Hashana, there is a blessing made on the wine, then a series of blessing on other things to wish everyone a happy and sweet new year. There are a lot of traditions when it comes to the blessing. One that is usually done by every household is dipping apple in the honey, for a sweet new year. Another is a tradition to eat the flesh of the head of the fish (so we can be the head and not the tail) Hope it helps....let me know if you need more info.
