I think the first question for me to you would be how long ago did the accident take place and the second would be have you seen a doctor about this yet? Not knowing any specific details, the obvious would be to see a doctor about your present condition. Have you seen a chiropractor or had any x-rays? Maybe a good anti-inflammatory medication with a muscle relaxer would be all you need. If you've tried Tylenol or medications like Advil or Motrin and it gave you no relief then maybe getting a stronger medication would be of help to you. There are many meds out there. NSAID's or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory's like Daypro, Relefan, Voltaren, Naproxen, Piroxicam, Mobic,Lodine, Dolobid and several others may help you. All are prescription medications with the exception of Naproxen or Aleeve. Muscle relaxants such as Soma, Robaxin, Flexeril, Zanaflex would make the pain a little easier to tolerate, as well. Physical therapy might have to be included or bio-electrical stimulation therapy could help. Other options would be a stronger pain reliever such as the narcotics. Some examples of these would be Lortab, Percocet, Darvocet or Darvon, Ultram. These would be the last choice due to their high incidence of abuse potential. Good luck to you and I hope your pain well get better.

You are doing the right thing for going to the doctor. I don't understand why so many people prefer pain killer than going have their back check out. For your cause it is more serious than muscle strain Try yoga. It helps me dealing with my back pain. And pay extra attention to your posture at all time, bad posture will lead with more pressure to your back.

I have a back injury from a car accident 1 years ago, when it 1st happened I had to take antiflamitory and muscle relaxers and use cold and then hot packs, but over time I only will take an antiflamitory on occasion and definately use ice packs, I do some excercises to stretch my back the best kind for myself is to lay flat on the floor and hold on to something with my arm while I lift up my legs this helps stretch out the lower back. Hope some of this helps. Also be sure to see your DR. that is the most important thing.

Your back pain can be a number of different things. It could be bruising, slippage, minor fracturing, swelling etc. The best way to tend to it is to get a doctor's recommendation. Don't fool around and go to a chiropractor...they are NOT medical doctors and may do more harm than good!

I cured my sciatica with this natural treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info )
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Be aware of your bed mattress. Better hard than soft to keep your backbone straight.
Your sleeping posture should be correct. Seek a chiropratitioner for advice on posture.
On the emotional side, financial stress is a cause as well. Mind and body are one. Your mind affects your body.
