The "Lowbrow" art movement, it started a while back but is only starting to be recognised commercially and by critics now.
Although artists which fall into this category dont like the word "lowbrow" it is a sub-culture of hot rod inspired visuals, mixing with tiki.
Artists in this group include, The Pizz, Shag, Robert Williams, Coop, Camille Rose Garcia......

Maybe we should add 'suckerism' to the list of sarah b. ;) Historically, art movements are only recognized after the fact and not during. Calling something 'lowbrow' or 'highbrow' does not suggest movement so much as target demographic It seems we've taken 'contemporary' out of our discussion on the subject. Maybe we should use 'temporary' in its place since that is what most of it is.

There is, check out graffiti in Pueblo Colorado. The movement started several decades ago, and the city painted over them. then in the middle 1900's the city of Pueblo was transformed and now, invites the graffitti and the banks of the Arkansas river jetty running thru town near the "old town", rejuvinated and is "the place to be seen" in the area, it boosts shops restaurants and highlites the spanish-american graffiti, which by the way is done in very good taste and is a must see excursion while visiting thr Pueblo river Walk. the artisans are are local and very talented.

The present "movement" has yet to be defined. Like other "isms" in art, the critic often comes up with a catchy name. Since there is no consensus on today's movement -- art is all over the board -- perhaps neo post moderism expresses it.

I wouldn't say it is still a movement that continues today but it is definitely a style that some artists still use and likely will continue to use for many years to come.
