I'am in a bit of a strange position. My grandfather in the U.S who is a citizen will be filling for my mom who is 36 & unmarried plus my siblings and I who are under 21 years of age, who's names will be on the petition as well.We currently live in Canada,my question is if my mom applies for permanent residency and it is granted and she chooses to go back to Canada temporarily due to bussiness reasons am I able to stay in the U.S if I have permanent residence through my mom? I'am turning 18 so I can legally live on my own,but I'am curious to know what would I do in this situation?...If i were to seek employement, would I tell the employer I have permanent resident status?..I'am asking because I figured if my siblings and I have are names on the petition keep in mind we are under 21 would we would automatically gain permanent residencey through are mom?

First of all, I admire your family for going about it the Legal way, there are so many people sneaking into the United States that I'm afraid of what will happen to our beautiful country. Thank you for wanting to stay here, and become a legal resident, on behalf of MANY Americans who are proud to have you here.

I believe that once you are 21 you can apply as a legal resident, and until then you are under your mom's residency. As long as she holds that residency I believe you can stay.....but don't quote me on it....I agree that you should do a little research. http://www.getmycountryback.com has some good links to find out any type of immigration question, just go to the links section and pick one LOL.

As far as I know, if you are 18, your Mom is no longer legally responsible for you, so you can stay if you want to. When you become a permanent resident, you will be issued "green cards" whic are pink by the way. These cards will allow your Mom to reenter the US if she needs to, as long as she is not out of the country for a year or more. You can come and go as you wish also, as long as you are out less than a year.

in USA 18 it the beginning of adulthood you can work play stay out all night no one has influence over you its not necessaryfor you to tell your prospective employers you situation concerning your immigration status unless asked and doubtful he will ask so don't volunteer it ,your mon can return to canada and stay up to 11 months 29 day without any jeopardy to her green card

18 is the cutoff age but I recommend you go to the US immigration website and check it for yourself. You can do a Yahoo search to find the page.www.us-immigration.com
