My mom just had her second surgery for breast cancer, this surgery removed her lymph nodes. We thought she should be better after the first surgery, but there was still cancer in the lymph nodes. What should I expect from here? I feel like I'm losing my Mama, and I need some answers!

I am a breast cancer survivor. I was lucky. The axillary dissection (removal of the lymph nodes) came out negative, even then my oncologist recommended chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Any type of cancer treatment is hell. Your mom's physician and oncologists are better qualified to answer your questions. My suggestion is that you accompany your mother to her next appointment, at which time you should address your concerns to those qualified. Hang in there hon and all the best to your mom. Only one thing I can suggest at this time is to give your mama a break, help her as much as you can and make her laugh. It's very important to keep a positive outlook. You wouldn't know the amount of boob jokes I heard and I have to admit that in my case I 'd rather laugh than feel sorry for myself. Take care!

hey don't give up that easily! At least all of you know her condition clearer now and specific medication can be applied on to her. Well since the cancer cells have spread into her lymph nodes, there is a higher chance that the cancer cells have gotten into the bloodstream. This may mean that other organs may be infected with the cancer cells, This spread called Metastasis. From what u said, yr mama breast cancer condition is malicious. There are about 15 types of breast cancer. But pls don't lose hope. Treatment can improve her condition. This is when pharmaceutical industries keep designing and producing new drugs to accomodate cancer devastation.

All the very best to your mama and family

Truly
Chris

Breast melanoma is never simply regarded 'cured', due to the fact it will probably return at any time - even years after diagnosis and therapy. That doesn't imply breast melanoma is not ever cured, just that it is not viable to claim for sure whether any person who's had breast cancer is cured. The time period 'no evidence of disorder' (NED) is used as an alternative. No, breast cancer just isn't moe easily cured or handled than different cancers. And sure, individuals di of it. In the us an typical of 112 females a day (that is one evey quarter-hour) die from breast melanoma; in the UK that usual is 33 a day. UT there are more breast caner survivors than ever earlier than, and if breast cancer is observed in its early stages the prognosis will also be very good. Even when it is now not caught early, the final result can be good; I was identified with stage 3 breast cancer over 6 years in the past. I had surgical procedure, chemo, radiotherapy and hormone remedy. I'm currently match and good with out a signal of cancer.

Oh Emily, I'm so sorry that your mom is going through this.

I think that after surgery, they will do chemotherapy and radiation treatments to get rid of any cancer that is left, that they couldn't remove surgically. Look it up on yahoo -- type in key words like breast cancer lymph nodes. There are lots of helpful sites.

My prayers are with you and your mom. Remember, lots and lots of women survive breast cancer.

Breast Cancer does'nt have to be deadly! It depends on if the doctors got all of it this last surgery she had. My Mom had her right breast taken off last year and they also removed her lymph glands. They said they got it all,but the doctor said that there's a five year window after they do surgery to have the chance to get it back,if they have'nt gotten it back in that five year period, then they most likely won't ever get it again. so far my Mom's been lucky.

Hang in there sweetie! I had a total of three surgeries which included mastectomy, lymph nodes and removal of more cancerous tissue after a recurrence. Five years later I'm still here and going strong. You be strong too and be there for your mom. You'll both be in my prayers!

it is the severity of the cancer cells that make cancer deadly. it can be cured if it is in the earlier stages and havent spread to the other internal body parts.

only God knows if you will lose ur mama or not. Keep on praying. With God, everything is possible. The doctors can provide the cure, but it is ONLY God who heals, even the deadliest of diseases.

There are too many variables about each woman's cancer journey to make any statements here that have actual meaning. Your mom may have chemo and radiation if the doctors think that is necessary, and beyond that there may be hormone therapy as well if her cancer is estrogen-receptor positive. Just stay close to your mother and be supportive, these treatments can be scary, but they are very do-able.

Sweetie, no one on here can really answer that for you. They can offer knowledge based on their experiences but that is about it. Your mom is a unique case, as is everyone's. The only one who can truly answer your questions is your mom's doctor. There are many, many survivor's of breast cancer, but no one can say anything about your moms case, because it's impossible to tell. I know you are scared, please talk to your mom or a close family member who knows what is going on. They would be the best people to get answers from.
