When I was 3 yrs old, my doctor said that I was allergic to cigarette smoke. Will I ALWAYS be allergic to cigarettes??? I mean I am around people that smoke all of the time and it never bothers me. I dont ever remember it bothering me either. Would it be a bad idea to try it out and see what happens?

Well, often allergies in childhood decrease in severity (or even go away) as one ages. Also, the reverse happens when new allergies appear. Perhaps your allergy just disappeared, or maybe your doctor misdiagnosed you.

However, I wouldn't suggest hanging around people who smoke, as there is significant scientific evidence that inhalation of smoke (even second-hand smoke) will lead to various cancers. Thus, it would be a bad idea to try it out, even if you didn't have an allergy anymore.

If you did still have an allergy, it could also cause significant negative effects.

No, we can outgrow allergy, but the flip side is we can develope new allergy at any time.

And some allergies, even when they seem gone, can come back if the exposure is cumulative.

Im allergic to iodine, I loved shrimp, an never had a bad reaction, but when I talked with my doc about this he put it this way.....

This is an allergy that can cause massive reaction, and the trigger is individual. How many shrimp are worth that risk? How many will it take?

I miss shrimp, but we pick our risks.
