If you are both the same gender, this is a very appropriate question. They are the expert, and business is not simply know-how, impressions are very important too, as your instructor will understand. Bounce ideas off of her, or come to class in various outfits and ask for opinions. You may get a reaction without asking.

At our university, there are whole courses that discuss business attire and the psychologies of color, etc. The way one dresses can have a large impact on business, and it's something that's studied. Even if your professor doesn't teach one of these classes, I'm certain she'd be flattered if you came to her for advice, and pleased for an opportunity to provide additional help to one of her students.

If she is an open type person and you would be asking for a good reason (ie not what to wear on date night) she would more than likely respond, or at least direct you to the store where she shops....places like Macy's have people to help with that...

no it doesn't seem awkward..unless she's one of those mean teachers
i think women business attire mostly are just like men...pants but wear a nice blouse
nothing that makes you look sexy or look like a hooker
no mini skirt or downblouse dress
also i think it's cute when a girl ties up her hair when dressed professionally

I would think it might be appropriate to ask her regarding outfits for job interviews, or styles that she thinks are appropriate for work.

Ask fellow students, dorm mates, roommates, friends and even family. I suppose you can ask your professor or instructor, but it may seem awkward.
