It enables people to fight 364 days of the year without public pressure being focused against them.

It's a sad fact that without conflict we wouldn't be so technically advanced today. Rather we would probably be still living in caves. World peace.... a long way off. Remember, the human species is only species that lets it's stupid breed and since we're probably only 40,000 generations removed from the little savannah monkey's whence we came, it's gonna take a while. So, 'World Peace Day, what's the point?.....' keeps you busy on a Sunday afternoon, does no harm to wish.

I agree with Kevin and Mesamama - also the more people think about the possibility of world peace, the quicker it will materialise

The Bible and Koran promise world peace - the New-agers talk about the age of Aquaries - peace, harmony and understanding

The holy book of The Bahai Faith talks about the lesser peace and the greater peace - 'unity in diversity' - one world government and one international language

People tend to forget their diferences when threatened by a common enemy or a greater danger

Nobody really knows how it will come about, but I for one can see the signs of progress.

Despite the setbacks I think we are moving in the right direction for world peace - like it says in the song - 'Imagine" all the people, sharing all the World ....living life in peace...... You may say I'm a dreamer......

World Peace Day would do a lot, actually. For one, it would ensure that one day out of the year there would be an international cease-fire, free from the constant stresses and horrors of war and fighting, that all people could finally be able to breathe and relax in war-torn nations. It would get people globally to actually stop obsessing with their own minisclule lives and think about their fellow man(and woman) for once, possibly opening the door to more tolerance and understanding among opposing cultures and religions. It would also boost international trade, as nations would not have the shadow of war over them-regular citizens could go about commerce freely in areas that they would otherwise not. Total permanent world peace is contrary to human nature, but one day of it is attainable and would impact the world in ways we can only imagine.

My views definitely won't be on your presentation project, but I have lived long enough to tell you that "World Peace" is just a slogan written on Christmas cards. Mankind will methodically continue to extinguish his fellow man as long as we populate this planet. Perhaps it's in our genes or just in our nature but the slogan "World Peace" is the biggest oxymoron know to man.

Bongo, it makes people in power think twice that the "little people" feel strongly about something and that could influence votes which could influence who gets in power. It is also a question of freedom of speech- People are able to have their say, create debate and make others think that we share the earth and whilst we elect leaders, that does not mean they can act with impunity.

Yes. It is at least a sign of an aknowledgement of the benefits of peace.
It may not be upheld.
It is a good platform for people to rise above the parapet, schools, communities etc.

What does it mean? What's the point? Will it make a difference? One word - HOPE. Without it we may as well give up now and I for one am not prepared to do that. Are you?
