My kitten is super affectionate when we're sleeping. She'll knead us all night with her paws. Why do cats do that when they're excited?

So does that mean she thinks we're her mommy? She's not super small anymore. She's almost an adult.

Cats do this for several reasons.

1. Kittens do this to stimulate milk from the mother.

2. To check the area that they are about to sit/lay down for fleas and bugs.

3. To make the spot where they are going to sit/lay more comfortable.

4. To let you know that they are happy and content, as cats also purrrrrrr whilst doing this.

I hope this answers your question, and helps out.

Kneading of the paws isn't just a sign of pleasure, but it can also be a sign of uncertainty. When kittens are born, they know to knead their paws to get their milk when they are hungry. The kneading becomes intertwined in the feeling of satisfaction, and therefore cats knead to be satisfied or to show they are satisfied. Not all cats do this, by the way.

RE: Why does my cat knead his paws on my blanket? My cat kneads his paws on only my baby blanket and nothing else, except maybe my comforter. Why does he do this? He purrs as he does it. Why not knead other things? I guess sometimes he kneads me.

My cat was abandoned by his mommy when he was just a few days old and he was bottle fed until he was weaned. So, hell put his face into my hair and knead my hair like he was nursing. Its ok until he gets the claws involved. I think he thinks im his mommy.

They don't knead when they are excited - they do it when they are trying to comfort themselves. It mimics the action they do to get milk from their mom. It calms them down, and usually they get this goofy look on their faces, with ears back. I love it, it's cool. Adult cats do this, too.

Its how they get the milk out of their mother, by pushing on the nipple area with their paws. Just like babies mock breastfeeding with their lips while they are sleeping.

It's just a relaxing, enjoyable act for her, even though she is almost an adult. Many adult cats do it

They are sure that with just a little more kneading and then into the oven for 2 hours at 350 you'll cook up just fine!
