Yes and no. It all depends on the state in which you reside.

Check local laws for SEXUAL CONSENT LAWS

It would be illegal if you were 21. She's 17. There is only a 3 year gap allowed by law. I don't know if each state differs but I'm pretty sure that its 3 years. So a 15 year old could date a 18 year old. 16 year old could date a 19 year old. You won't get in trouble whether sex is involved or not.

It depends on the state (if you are in the u.s.) my advice is consult an attorny, way back in the stone age when I was 18/19 I had a girlfreind who was 16/17 this was texas in the 80's, everybody said the closeness of age means it's not statutory rape, however during that time I worked as a pizza delivery driver , and I can remember the police coming around wanting to talk to this guy that worked with me,turns out he was just being nice and talking to this 15 year old girl, and the girl developed a crush on him, he stopped talking to her and she cried rape, the charges got dropped but he STILL got PROBATION for just talking to her, something about contributing to the deliquincey of a minor,so BE CAREFULL,remember all you 18/19 year old dudes out there, when you date an underage girl it is like you are dating her parents too,if you piss off or offend them in some way it could be bad, so WATCH OUT!!!

I'm not aware of any law saying that the over-18 crowd can't have romantic relationships with minors...I think the only thing that's illegal is having sex with a minor, as you said. A relationship between a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old, in my mind, is totally acceptable....it's when 50-year-olds start dating 13-year-olds that I start thinking about legal issues!

P.S. I dated a 17-year-old guy when I was 19, so if that's against the law, I'm a criminal right there with you! :)

You are right. In most states as long as you two are not sexually active nothing happens to you. And that depends on the state. Some states the age of sexual consent is younger.

It's only illegal if there is sexual contact. It depends on your state's rules on statutory rape and age of consent. Otherwise, its just two people hanging out, which isnt' a crime anywhere that I know of.

Yes, anybody 17 or under is considered a minor and is considered "off limits" to people who are of "legal" age (18 and over).
