They believe with God dead, someone has to take His place. Who is that person ? Have they lost their faith? Will their new god be a god of power (like Hitler) of a god of pleasure (like Hugh Heffner of Playboy fame)? Any thoughts on this subject? No offense, everyone to their own.

If atheists believe in the Big Bang rather than creation, WHO do they believe put the Big Bang into place and set it off? Answer: The very God they decided not to believe it. All life & the universe didn't just come out of nowhere, creaed by nothing.

Aetheists don't believe God died. They believe he never existed.

The God is dead thing started when it became apparent God doesn't interfere in worldly things much any more. In the old days he destroyed evil cities, drowned most of humanity and the animal kingdom as well, sent down plagues, pestilence and the angel of death.

These days when we have earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes we say they are natural phenomena. They stopped giving God the credit because these phenomena kill more good people than bad.

God's the one that needs to do the explaining.

They don't believe, therefore he isn't. If he doesn't exist, he neither lived, nor died and couldn't have a funeral. Who says any Atheist is going to pick a God? You can't choose something you don't believe in!

My thought on this subject is that you are very confused. Hitler and Hugh Heffner aren't Gods, they're just a pair of unsavory men. You believe in a supernatural being because you have faith in him/it/she. Atheists have faith in their own conclusion that he/she/it or them do not exist. No offense taken.

Um, no, we don't believe in any gods, at all, ever before, now, or going forward.

We don't believe that god died, because we don't believe there was a god period.

And no, we don't believe God created the Big Bang -- we don't believe in a God. It's perfectly possible that the universe has eternally existed. Any number of cosmological models are infinitely existing (brane collision hypothesis, inflaton hypothesis, cyclic inflation hypothesis, etc) and thus don't need an initiator.

Your entire line of questioning is illogical. If atheists do not believe in a God, then how could they have believed he died? Where did you get that idea that they believe God died if he never existed to them? And faith is for the religious, not the atheists. Atheists are more science-oriented in their beliefs. Hard facts. And if they don't have room in their belief system for a God, why would they be looking for a new one to replace him? God is not a human who would have a funeral anyways.

I thought atheists don't believe in the existence of God. How can God be a "He"? It seems he and she applies to human and animal forms. Can God die? Who would attend to the funeral? I'm not sure you really understand atheism.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster took his place!Seriously, that wouldn't be an athiest. An Atheist doesn't believe in a supreme diety at all.It would be nice if we could just pick and choose who we were going to believe in next, but even Christians don't have that kind of blind faith.Well, not anymore...

Atheist speaking: I don't believe god(s) ever existed, so he/she/it/them never died or ever lived. Some deists believe that god died, but that doesn't apply to us Atheists. I would personally nominate myself for god because I am totally awesome.

I don't like that guy JT. He looks like messed up dog. No offense.

Uhm, atheists don't believe he/she died. The most you'll hear is the quote from Nietzche "God is dead" which more talks about how messed up religion is, not that he literally died.

Philosophy ftw.
