What does the soul do that no other already identified bodily organ doesn't already take care of? What value is it?

I'm not sure, but what makes the difference between a living body and a dead one? Sure, all the organs contribute to living, and many are essential to living. But the body is alive one minute, and dead the next, and the difference is obvious, but no particuular organ seems to be the crucial factor. Sure, you can test for brain waves, but what makes the brain waves stop? Maybe the soul is not the operative factor here, but then, I don't see anything else either.
