Tell him what a dear friend he has been to you and that you love him as a friend but are not "in love" with him. Also that you hope that does not interfere with your friendship. Who knows, maybe your feelings will change later on.

Oh, hon...this is such a tough one. I've been on the opposite side of your situation...I was in love with my best guy friend ever since I met him, but he, like you, just didn't feel the same way.
To be completely honest with you, I don't think that there's anything you can do to prevent things changing between the two of you, at least slightly. Things always tend to become awkward in a friendship when one person wants to make things romantic.
My best advice to you is to tell him, in the kindest way possible, that while you aren't interested in him romantically, you really do cherish his friendship and want to keep him as a friend (assuming that you do). My biggest regret is that after telling my guy friend how I felt, our friendship fell apart & never recovered. Take care of your friendship first....relationships come and go, but friendships last much longer.
I'll definitely be keeping my fingers crossed for you, hon...take care.

You gotta tell him now. You'll break his heart, but do it soon so he can move on quickly. You women don't realize that when you send out messages, unless you clarify them to us, we get confused easily and think you're in love with us. Don't string him on. Tell him straight up that he's a great friend, but that's all and that you are not in love with him, never have been, and never will be! You'll probably loose his friendship, but that's what happens when **** happens!

YOU NEED TO BE HONEST WITH HIM AND TELL HIM THE
TRUTH THAT YOU CHERISH HIS FRIENDSHIP. AND ALWAY
WILL BUT YOU DONT FEEL AS HE DOES. AND HOPE THAT
BOTH OF YOU CAN MOVE ON BECAUSE A FRIENDSHIP IS
HARD TO FIND. SO I HOPE YOU BOTH CAN CONTINUE
THE FRIENDSHIP.
