i recently dowloaded & installed windows sp2 & now my moden isnt working. ive deleted it & reinstalled but my comp doesnt seem to realize the modem is there i keep getting (RAS) error 692 from my service provider but ive no idea what that means

i just downloaded windows xp sp2 via windows update the modem is the stock modem for my computer i think (lucent win modem) the modem was working fine till i restared now the comp acts like its not there. this is a real prob cause if i roll back my puter everything will work but it will yell about being out of date

That error that you received means that there was a hardware failure in port or attached device. There is a way to double check to make sure that your modem is working properly. Go to your device manager and see if you can locate your modem and if it is there see if it it is working properly. If it doesn't appear in device manager then you need to re-install the device itself along with the drivers that came with the modem. If you don't have the driver disc head to driverguide.com to download and install the latest driver for your modem. To add the device or make windows look for the device use the add/remove hardware wizard to force windows to search for it. try checking out the windows firewall, maybe it blocking something.
