Think about it. If a bag of IV fluid is hanging in the patient's room, it will be at about room temperature.

This is fairly simple-the fluid in the IV is at a different tempeture than your body. Usually the fluid is at room tempeture or about 68-72 degrees. Normal body tempeture is about 94.6. This is a difference of almost 25 degrees. Kind of like the difference between 72 and 47 on a clear day. With the differences in temp, you would feel the difference and the IV would thus appear to be colder

Because the fluid or liquid in the IV is colder than your blood and body temp... medicines can change if there stored warm depending upon the IV... But most medicines are to be stored at room temp or lower...

Because the IV is at room temperature and your body is at body temperature which is usually higher than room temperature.

It's the same reason the pool feels cold when you jump in the water, but in the case of the IV, the water is jumping into you!

The magic word here is ADRENALINE. its your body's way of saying "Hey! that's not mine!"
Younger people tend to have more problem with this than older people. FEAR NOT! it will ease with time.
I have the same problem, I almost passed out from an iodine drip they put in me before a CAT scan. Fun fun!
