Time and again Paul likens the Christian’s course to a “race” that must be run to the finish. “Let us run with patience the race that is set before us,” he urged the Hebrews. (12:1, AV) To enter the race, sinners must take the steps necessary for salvation: hearing and accepting the Word of God, believing in Jesus Christ and his ransom sacrifice, repenting of their sins and being baptized. In this way, they get saved “from this crooked generation,” as Peter exhorted those gathered at Pentecost. Unbelievers are outside the race, having failed to enter by getting “saved.”Acts 2:37-40.
Once entered in the race by being “saved,” a Christian takes “hold of the life which is life indeed.” But is it possible to lose that grip on life? Paul answers with this question: “Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize?” In the Christian race, Paul indicates the “one” who receives the prize is anyone who finishes the race. Therefore, Paul urges, “So run that you may obtain it.” Then, using himself as an example to make the point of his illustration, he continues: “I pommel my body and subdue it, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” 1 Tim. 6:19.
Evidently the apostle, who surely was a “saved” Christian, believed that even he could be “disqualified” from the race. Yet as long as he continued to ‘run that he might obtain’ the prize, thus remaining in the race, salvation was assured. This is why Christians who remain in the race can be said to ‘have everlasting life.’ But if they should ever quit the race, they are “disqualified,” losing their hold on everlasting life.

That is not true. Once save always saved!!! It's crazy because u can get saved and than turn away from God and go astray and do all of type of sinful things. If that was the case why would there really be a need for salvation!! Think about it!!! If a person who once got saved but turned and started worshipping Buddha a" false god" but still claimed to be save u see that statement has absolutely no trueness to it. Thats like saaying once a drug abuser always a drug abuser. I hope someone gets the point i'm trying to make!!

That depends do you believe that once you wash a shirt it will never get dirty again?
My cousin called to tell me when she got saved, she said it meant that no matter what she did from here on she could be forgiven because she was saved.
Then she at 15 went the next week with her Mothers permission and got on birth control because her and her boyfriend were ready and she didn't want to be pregnant at 16 like her Mom was.
I don't think being saved should be something that gives you license to do whatever you want and think you will not have to answer for it b/c you were saved.

Yes, God promises that once a person excepts Jesus into their hearts and truly beleives he puts them in his right hand and no one can ever pluck them out. He has many more promises that go along with this verse in the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John go into detail. Peoplr get confused by 2Peter. Peter is talking in this chapter about people who claim that they are saved and even know how to be. So it would have been better if he had not known the truth.Look at David who commited murder he ran from God for one year and God didnt take his salvation. He simply ask God to forgive him. I guess all in all a person who is truly saved will always turn back to God!

This is Calvinist doctrine and part of the 5 point TULIP belief. I believe your salvation is secure if YOU do not throw it away. If your heart is right, you will not. Salvation is free, but obedience is something God demands....even before there was no salvation, there was obedience. When Adam and Eve were in the Garden, before the fall, before sin, God demanded obedience and salvation was not even an issue at that time.
"Once saved, always saved" implies you cannot fall from grace. Paul tells the Galatian Christians who had embraced those who told them they had to keep the Law of Moses, as well as the Law of Grace, they had "fallen from grace!"
Yes, you can lose it all if you fail to be TRUE to God. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways....let that man not think he will receive ANYTHING from the Lord.

I used to believe that you could lose your salvation, but after asking many questions and studying it a lot I have changed the way I believe. Now I believe that if one really gives their heart to Christ and truly gets saved they will always be saved.

No. We are called to persevere in the faith, not that we can just pray a prayer one time and then be "home free." The first link below is an excellent article on the problems with "once saved, always saved."

No, not at all. If that were true, then there would be no such thing as an apostate and Paul wouldn't have referred to himself and other Christians as "those of us who are being saved" showing that it is a process rather than a state of being. Also, the Bible says "He who endures to the end is the one who will be saved."

No because a lot of people from the Bible that were saved fell back into sin and were no more saved.
