I moved in with him in October 2005 to help him out. But after I moved in he seemed to get worse. I feel like it is my fault that this happened. I am not sure what to do or think. My sister doesn't help by saying it was my fault he got sick in the first place. And she still does! I am so saddened by this not sure what to do!

Usually its the nature to blame ourself when someone we are close or whom we love get sick or pass away. We run thru all the events and think this happend cos of me. if i was not there it would not hav happened. Its natural. It just shows how much u cared for that person. ur father is really lucky to get a daughter like u.

Do not listen to your sister, nor to any of the stupid answers these insensitive unintelligent people say here!!

You were not very specific, but I will say, you need to seek some counseling for your situation and loss. On the other hand let your sister know that you are grieving the loss of your father and really find it cruel, cold, and rude for her to act this way, as you loved your father and that you are having a very difficult time with it and just say: You really need to stop!! You are not helping any, # 1. By saying that she can't make your father come back.
# 2. It is coming from a stand point of condemnation
# 3. She should be supportive and all of you are trying to get through this difficult time. Be strong and read some self help books on grief and positive subjects, go to church and pray every night, pray a lot, it really helps. I wish you peace and comfort in your difficult struggle. God bless!

First off, its not your fault, he was going to get sick anyway, it doesn't matter if you was there or not. You can't change Gods plan when he wants to take someone home.

You have to look at things different, you did move in to take care of your father you can't take that priceless time back. if you hadn't moved it you would still be fighting with yourself saying I should of moved in. So you have valued time being present with him in his final days.

So many people can't say that,, either they have been so mad or angrily about the past the missed saying goodbye to a family member in their final day. we take life for granted that we have soo much time.

Maybe your sister is hurt because she wasn't there to help out or even show her love in his final days you guys can go round and round about blaming but God has his plans in motions way before you moved in. Live for today not tomorrow its not promised

Of course you are sad--that goes with the territory, but no one can make a person live or die. That comes from within. You didn't make him get sick--he did that all on his own without your help. Find something or someone that will divert your attention from the guilt trip you are on. As for your sister, she is deferring her own guilt off on you.
It might be time to break off communication for a while, and hope that she can wake up and see the long term damage she is doing to your relationship to her. B.

We always go through: "What could I have done to prevent this" after someone close to us dies.

Could you have stopped it if you'd known about it? Yes.
Did you know about it? No.

One of my best friends comitted suicide last September, was there something I could've said to prevent it? Probably.
Thats not the way it worked out, it was his time. Is it my fault he's dead? No. Do I blame myself? Sometimes.
Does it keep me awake at night? No.

Sh1t happens. Free yourself.

You feel badly because you tried to help him and it was too far gone. Coming to terms with his death however you do it will disspell anything another person says about your helping him. Best of luck...come to terms however you can, talking to others, prayer, thought...but its not you and you know it.

Maybe because you were wrestling with him? You don't really provide enough details for us to come up with a logical reason.
