I recently went to the ER for my left knee being huge and swollen with really bad pains. The doctor sat in the chair, never examed me...he asked me what I did to it and I repeatably told him nothing. He kept assuming I did something to it. How would he know he didnt examin it. He said "thats strange". And then he sent me home. I was almost in tears. He showed no care and not so much as did an x ray or anthing. Since then my knee is still swollen and hurts really bad. I am so angry at the treatment from the doctor. He was in the room maybe a total of 2 minutes. I went home even worse, not only in pain but upset that the doctor didnt give my knee so much as a blink.

First of all that doctor was not right there should have been xray or something on your knee. But I agree with you, but not all docotrs are that way I love mine she is great. But as you said docotors now days just don't have the personality to deal with people, i DON'T KNOW IF IT IS BECAUSE THEY ARE SWAMPED DOWN ALL THE TIME AND HAVE NO TIME TO spend personal time with the patient because they are in a hurry to get to another one, or maybe they think being emotional not there with people it is easyer to deal with the problems. I had a run in with a doctor like this once my son was about 2 and we knew he had phenmonia but this jackass would not even look at him, long story short I was held out side in cuffs until the Perametic finally got this quack to look at my son's xrays, he had it alright and had to stay in the hospital for a week. From them on I told that doctor to stay away from my son and he got a restaining order against me LOL so it owrked out.

By the way put ice on your knee and that will help and then get to your doctor to make sure you did not pull or tear anything oin there.I have had 6 surgerys on my knee so I know you need to take care of it now

That was probably not a very good examination. Maybe you got the doctor on a really bad day although that is not an excuse either. You must have done something to your knee, they don't swell for nothing. You most likely need to rest your knee Not sure if an xray will tell anyone anything while it is so swollen. You had better go back to the doctor or go to another one as a swollen painful knee is not normal

You are right on. Yes, doctors are turning cold... you are like a number to them. I find that I can get better information about my maladies from the internet. I have yet to find a great doctor and I'm 48.

About the ER. I too have experienced total indifference going to the ER. I swore I would never go to one again. You spend hours there and they don't do a thing to help you.

I went to the ER once for chest pains and had to wait hours to see a doctor. I kept having to ask if there was a doctor who was going to see me. There was no one there so I don't know why it took so long. When he finally came his attitude was "what do you want?" He did NO exam and sent me on my way with pain killers!!!

Another time I went because my ankles were very swollen and I was pregnant. I didn't want to go but my best friend made me, said it could be a serious problem like eclampsia. Long story short I spent hours in there (with my feet down) when they looked at it and offered no advice... couldn't even say the words, oh, don't worry about it... nothing!!! I would have been MUCH better off if I went right home and put my legs up!!

When I broke my foot I refused to go to the E.R. I asked my doctor if it was OK if I came to the office in the morning if I iced it and kept it up and she said yes. One ER visit eliminated!

Maybe he did not have good bedside manner. If the situation seems too strange to happen situations like yours can occur. Remember doctors tend to know when something does not seem naturally right even if it is an accident. Also you did not explain if your pain went away naturally. Maybe your knee was not in great critical conditions and he knew it could be taken care of naturally.

Go to another doctor as obviously there is something wrong. If you do find something wrong then either contact the heads of the hospital and forward a complaint in regard to your treatment (and do this even if you dont find anything wrong as how dare he not examine your knee). If you dont get satisfaction get legal advise!

try going to a different doctor!! dont just go to the ER - talk to your family doctor!! he'll be able to help you a little bit better!!
and for the pain, i like Advil - that usually works for me!! unless you're allergic, then you should read whats in it first!!

That doctor was unusual. I think that most are caring and careful.

You need to see a regular doctor.

most emergency doctors have about 5min or less to see patients. Too many patients to see for one doctor

That's quite a generalization to make. After all, its only one doctor you had seen. Should we make the generalization that all patients are drug seeking idiots?
