Respect them for the separate little human beings they are, and expect respect from them.

Be an excellent example for them in your way of speaking, way of acting, and way of relating to them.

Make them laugh

Help them to feel safe and protected

Help them to understand that when they make the same kind of mistakes that most kids make at one time or another it is because they're kids and not because there is something wrong with them or because they must be headed for prison when they grow up.

Let them know when there is something about them that you admire

and, of course, be as free with the "I Love You's" as they are.

Be silly with them watch movies and play games with them. Just enjoy your kids they grow up so fast. Always put them and there feelings first. Love them unconditionally, give them lots of praise, show them the solutions when they are doing things that are wrong (like explain to them why you won't let them do this or that), read to them even if it one of your magazines (if they are too young for books), if they aren't too young get them books, and have lost of fun.

Show them AND tell them you love them,
Spend quality time with them-- reading books, playing games, singing, dancing, acting silly
Be consistent with discipline (kids feel more secure when they know their boundaries)
