The house is brick all around, bulit in the late 40's there is no where else to put the dryer. I wanted to fit the washer and dryer in to the hall bathroom closet, but the door way is wayyyy to small to fit the machines through.

get a condensing dryer then you won't need a vent.

In looking at the first 2 answers, I have to wonder why a clothes washer,,and/or dryer is in a kitchen,,,,not even considering heat exchanges.

Perhaps you have no place else to house them?

Do you have a basement? Or a garage adjacent to the kitchen?

To vent a dryer is an easy enough task, when you have all the right situations in place. Actually I wouldn't damage the structure of a house, especially brick facing, to install a vent. I'd try other alternatives,,,even venting boxes, kept behind the dryer with a venting tube, sold at most home/hardware stores, as a last option.

If you have a basement, or garage, and must keep a dryer in a kitchen, I'd cut a hole large enough for the vent hardware, and allow the venting that way.

The vent kit itself is very economical, and the install can be a DIY if you have either of the two areas I suggest.

You dont say if the dryer is also going to be in the kitchen. If it is you could rent a saw from a rental company and do it your self for about 50 dollars. From someone that knows what they are doing probably around 150. Brick is hard to drill a hole through and it leaves no room for error. If you can try to find a room where there is no brick and do it your self it is very easy.

BUT, I would not put a dryer in a kitchen it will get too warm in there. Kitchens already heat up becuase of cooking so a dryer would only make it unbearable at times. It will also increase the humidity. If you are really tight on a budget I would think of venting out a window like you would an air conditioner. You would only have to put the hose out the window whenever you are using the dryer. It would only cost a couple of dollars for the extra hose. You would have to see about building codes though some places require a rigid hose to vent from a dryer. As a fire precaution you should never leave your dryer on when you are not at home or if you are going to bed. Lint can catch on fire.

where's the dryer?

the vent and pipe are cheap (20-30 dollars)
if it's straight thru the wall, nothing fancy,
you can rent a large drill and the right bit (core bit)
and probably do it yourself cheaper

most contractors don't like doing little jobs, cause you have to charge for the day even though it only took a couple of hours

About $30 or you can do it yourself. I just moved into my house & had to install one. Of course I had my boyfriend cut the hole but we bought everything at Lowe's for about $25.
