Goodness, some of you explaining the sterilization of spinach during canning must have a complete lack of sense of humor. This IS a joke! Popeye ain't real!

The news show I watched this morning had a spoof on this same idea. Popeye was fighting Brutus, as usual, and when he ate the spinach, instead of getting strong, he turned green and said he didn't feel too good. Poor Popeye!

Popeye doesnt have to worry; the spinach scare is exclusively for fresh spinach, and Popeye eats his out of a can.

Not to worry. If you’ll recall, Popeye only ate “Spinach” brand spinach, which was not packaged by Natural Selection Foods. Secondly, canned spinach is cooked, which kills all potential E.Coli, so our Main Man is sittin’ sweet.
However I am sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but you are behind the times. Olive Oil passed away in 1989 from a combination of bulimia and ‘abdominal’ trauma (due to getting the “high hard one” from Bluto). I’m so, so, sorry for you to hear about it like this…

My God...There are other people out there who
are concerned about what this Spinach Debacle
will do to our friend and dear associate, Popeye.
Personally, I have been worried sick. It seems
like nearly the entire crop of California Spinach
will go down the tubes this month with none
being canned for our friend. This is tantamount
to fratracide, or fantacide. It must be stopped right
this minute. I am just so upset. Someone should
take the guy who pooped in the leaves and feed
him peas for the rest of his life.

Popeye has always eaten canned spinach.
Besides, Olive Oil may have been the one to do the damage to spinach.......

No, Popeye always ate his spinach out of a can, and that stuff is so overprocessed and old no E.Coli could have lived through it. Our boy is gonna be just fine, and SweetPea as well.

First thing I thought of. Poor Popeye. Now she'll have to depend on Wimpy.

He eats that vile green canned stuff instead of real spinach. Besides the taste, vitamins, texture, and all the good stuff the canning process kills the E Coli.
