Hiking in the mountains near the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is a spur trail off the Appalachian Trail that goes to a rocky knob called Spy Rock. "Trail" might be generous, but it is on maps. Anyway, after climbing and scrambling, you get up on this rock outcropping, where the wind has suppressed all but a few stunted shrubs, and look around. 360 degree view of the valley around you, and the farther, taller mountains on either side of the valley. All is verdant forest; you're the only visible sign of humanity for miles... It is absolutely gorgeous....

The south west bays of Long Island (the bay is the nursery for the ocean), I take my boat into the shallows, sand bars/mud and catch/trap little baby fish, crabs, etc. I show them to my little guy (4yr old), the look of wonder and amazement on his face, just like his daddy did, a hundred years ago trudging through the mud as a child. We then release the catch back to the environment unharmed, grateful for the observance.

Walking in the woods alone, hearing the wind blow through the trees and a deer scurrying through the leaves. And the quiet can be so "loud", you know?
I love the ocean, too, but have to go with the hiking.

well i live in the country! but the closest i have ever felt to nature is when i was staring out through the fields after a rainstorm. the sun was going down and it was shining against the dark rain clouds and the nearby hills.....a rainbow formed as the wind started to pick up....i was truly mesmorized by the entire site and couldn't believe what i was looking at....it was amazing and i felt as unified with nature as one can be.

Believe it or not but on my balcony. I can see roads, traffic lights, and cars but also see rolling green hils with beautiful oak trees. The scene is civlization versus nature. When you perceive both simultaneously, you tend to appreciate one over the other. When you realize the chaos of modern day life, you realize how nice nature truly is.

When I ride my Heer Halzan (horse) and gallope accross the valley and begin to smell whole pasture and all those plants then it feels like mother natures pure hand.
