Why does calmine lotion work so well to stop itching?

i dont really know why but i do love calamine lotion, its sooth the itching. Maybe because it feels cold when you applied it to the skin and that cause the itchiness to become less.

So, at times i thot that the coldness helps ease the discomfort and now, besides calamine lotion, i opt for cold shower.
